My Wife got me a sweet anniversary present, and it showed up today. I have wanted one of these amber quilt top models ever since Van Halen released the video for Not Enough. I have been obsessed with that guitar since seeing that video. Quilt tops ain’t exactly easy to get since they are rare as fuck, so i never gave much thought to owning one. Anyways I found this one, and after checking with Jim DeCola about it, he verified that it was indeed a real deal Peavey, and given the circumstances, and particular set of features, it is most likely an “Employee build” from “borrowed” parts   . I have always liked the whole Bonnie and Clyde outlaw theme, so this guitar fits the bill perfectly ! The reason Jim says it was made with “borrowed” parts, is because this particular wolfie has NO serial number whatsoever. It also doesn’t have the screw holes for the trem plate (which I prefer). I have several Wolfgang’s and this one plays and sounds better than all of them by far !

man what a gift! HNGD!

color me envious dude! congrats...they are hard to come by, and sounds like yours may even be a real rare bird.

Beautiful guitar. I have a 1999 USA arch top same color. It plays like a dream. Congrats. And you have a wonderful wife to think of giving you such an awesome gift. Cheers.

That is totally a badass score! A verified special build.

Beautiful and rare as hens teeth in and of itself for being a quilt top. For it to be in that condition AND it's a prototype of some kind with no serial number, the value is substantially high.

If possible, could you get paperwork from peavey directly for a certificate of authenticity to add value?

HNGD and glad you have a true one of a kind wolfgang from arguably the best of the entire series, even today!

its not a true "museum" piece, as it does have a few dings and such in the back of it, but nothing major at all. considering its age of 23/24 years old though, it is in amazing condition.

I may have to email peavey and see about getting some sort of documentation for it. I hadn't even thought about that, but that's a damn good idea !

God damn. That wife of yours sure buys you some nice gifts!

I know mine is a Flame top but I wanted to share it with you... 1999/2000 USA PEAVEY Wolfgang on the right. Next to my Musicman USA AXIS. Both play amazing but the AXIS edges the Peavey out by just by the slightest bit.

Wow, lucky you. Always wanted an amber quilt too, never came across one. But i found a purple quilt last year and bought it. Plays damn nice!!!!

Wolfgangs are my favorite guitars ever. Be it Peavey n EBMM or EVH. They all play awesome!!!!

BTW: thanks guys, I do have a pretty awesome wife. I am a fortunate dude. being that i'm a musician and don't work outside of that, we all know I don't have any cash   ... I really need to say fuck It and go country haha

Yeah, the EBMM EVH are kinda mystique or something, everytime i hear about one or see something about one, i get an inner shiver of some sort!!!! Lol.

Got my first one about 25 years ago, they had just came out and i traded an original 5150 head for it. Thought the amp sounded like ass....lol. It's the days of gain on max and zero mids, full bass and treble, my god, what was i thinking with those settings.

But...... Sure glad i was a noob, got a nice purple quilt EVH guitar out of my noobieness.....

So now i got two of them. Very lucky i was. I too dont want the Axis, gotta be the EVH.

Shitty pic but here are my fsvorite guitars gathered with my second 5150 series amp i bought, by that time i was a little bit wiser towards dialing in a tube amp....

Haha the white knobs ! Love it ! I remember bugging Peavey about those knobs when the XXX2 or one of those amps back then had em. I got them for all my 5150’s and 6505’s. Hell, I remember a few people on rig talk asking me years ago where I got them from cuz Peavey used those 3/16 shaft pots. Maybe I had talked to you about that too. I remember there was a few people who liked it and some well not so much

Lol, yup, you where the one who told me to call Peavey direct. Like 35 cents each or something!!!

I always try to put white knobs on my amps. My UL has them too. I got some for my friedman, dont know if that will look cool or not but i ll try it. Havr some for my Revv too...lol

Even my EVH Wolfs have them!!!!!

Hahahab

Speaking of those evh wolf’s ... what bridge pickup do you have in them ? I noticed they are all white

Those are Suhr Aldrich pups. Love these in there, very crunchy and tight. Perfect for my metal needs.

Do not like the EVH pups, too saturated and not tight enough for me, squeals too. I looove the Peavey ones though, those rock. As do the EBMM also. Very nicely balanced. Neck pup is wicked.

I’m actually thinking about Aldrich pups for my quilt top. I really want the solid black pickups to match the guitar from the video, and have heard great things about the Aldrich stuff. I love the way the Peavey pickups sound too though, so I’d definitely be hanging onto these.

Since that is a first year quilt, with no serial number and no trem backplate w/no holes, it possibly could have been one built for ED that didn't make the cut and one of the Peavel guys took it home. I'm not sure how Peavey can track down the pedigree with no serial number but that's one hell of a cool find as long as it is authentic.

I have a 1983 Kramer Pacer Imperial that I purchased brand new and it has a raw maple neck with no finish, at that time most were getting aheavy gloss polyurethane finish, I've never seen another or found another like it after all these years.

i'm not sure how they could match things up either but it would be nice if they could though. I have matched it up with my other peavey wolfgang's, and it is identical in every way, so if it were a copy of some sort, it is the best damn copy they can make and plays better than the peaveys   . Jim DeCola who designed the wolfgang even said it was legit, so if they managed to fool him on the build then whoever the builder is needs to open up their own shop. I was very apprehensive about the wife spending the cash on the guitar with no serial number, so I went to him with a bunch of pics of it to get verification.
