I know you like to nit pick every thread you are involved in, but really...on a ten scale how much of a Bob Villa do you need to be to make a pedalboard ?

Are you going to cry? I can send some tissues your way if you are.

I bought a Pedal train and I couldn't be happier with it. I thought about building my own but by the time I factored in a decent case, and the amount of time it would take me personally, I couldn't justify the hassle.

I think in most cases this is the right answer.

Only so many people want a redneck pedalboard on stage just so they can say "I did it." That comment is just for my fan, snowdog.

Looks great man. What type of woods did you use?

Thanks. I used curly soft Maple for most of it and Maple ply for the two slats that the Velcro will be attached to.

To be clear, I'm not functionally retarded. I can't make dovetail joints because A) I don't have the tools and B) I've never tried.

By not mechanically inclined I mean I've not put years into building things. I took and passed shop class in middle and high school. I know how to use a tablesaw, belt sander and drill press. It's just nothing I've stuck with over the years.

Perhaps I shouldn't have sold myself so short in my OP! Lol!

I'm obviously a bit of a literalist in the sense that I take ones words at face value. If you know ow to use tools you can build yourself a board for a pretty decent price.

Here's mine, stained and with one coat of my poly/oil mix. I'm planning on applying 3 coats across 3 days.

That looks great! I personally prefer the "furniture grade" pedalboards like yours. Did you consider putting in side mounted connections?

Looks great Bob. I wish I had the knowledge to do stuff like that but more importantly, the PATIENCE. I want things done asap...I could never work with wood.

I buy pedaltrains...they never fail me.

I'll be the odd man out... I built mine out of 3/4" MDF and it has held up for years. Having said that, I've never spilled a beer on it, but I try not to let anyone with a beer in hand near it anyway. I'd be more worried about the pedals getting wet.

Thanks and yes, I did consider it but decided to go the simpler route.

Hey Crew.

Here is the board I built. As you can see, it is not a display piece but it does work well. Top can be remove and within 2 minutes I am up and running. I went the home Depot route. I picked up trunk liner and used an epoxy adhesive (which I recommend applying in a WELL ventilated area) to adhere the liner, Velcro on the pedals and wala!

I did the orange because at one point I had a Marshall 1/2 stack in the same color.

Nice job meanplexi.

Thanks Bob!

I have to admit that there was a lot of swearing and several trips back to Depot :D ! In the end I got what I wanted. 1st and most important, Kept all my fingers and other trusty appendages. 2. A plug, play and bail board  !

LOL... #1 is key!

After careful deliberation, I have decided to just order the damn Gorm shelf from Ikea. After a few suggestions of pedal layout, I set my stuff up at home and even at an angle I hate not having the zoom and Splawn footswitch side by side. The Ikea board works perfectly PLUS it comes as a 2 pack so I can cut one to make a simple board without the Splawn footswitch and wireles for open jams or gigs where backline is provided. The only thing I will need to do on the full board is maybe add a middle support. I also will raise the back so the boards will sit at an angle.

Here's the revised look. I want to do a bright color but not sure what yet:

Right on, and that's probably a cost effective way to tackle this too.

Yup. Not buying off more than I can chew, only cost $10.99 for the 2 shelves. Paint, Velcro and feet should only be about $15.

I've got a question... I'm only finding 4" wide velcro in rolls of 25 yards and don't need nearly that much, but I can find the sew on kind in lesser quantities. Has anybody used this type and just sprayed 3M adhesive on the back for fastening?

Sometimes, less is more.

Unfortunately not. However, have you considered Dual Lock Bob? You would need very little (compared to Velcro), it has significantly better grip, and it doesn't collect dust, cat hair and dirt.

Just a thought.

Nope, do you have a link?
