Peter! Is it possible to mod hagen(ch3)to VH4 spec(ch3)?

If you want VH4 channel 3 get a VH4!!!

But serious.Ask Peter. He will tell you if it is possible

Anything's possible. But my guess is it's not feasible as the gain-stage and tone-stack is different in the Hagen then it is in the VH4, which would be a re-route to get Ch.3's tone within the circuitry.

I'd buy the VH4 and be done with the details.

I've owned both. Its just not worth the coin (to me) for that one channel....

Unfortunately: absolutely not. You could change the preamps resistors and caps, so that they are the same wiring as in the VH4 but this will affect all channels and it will NOT make your Hagen (Ch3 or any other channel) sound like the VH4. Just the placement of components makes a bigger difference than their values. The D-moll for example is almost entirely identical to the Hagen when it comes to the wiring (i think they use the same transformers as well), but they sound nothing alike, due to the different location of all components.

You can however modify your Hagen so that certain aspects sound more VH4-like, but you can only do subtle changes if you do not want to compromise the amps overall tone. I am assuming that that there is only one gainstage dedicated to Ch2and3 in which you could change the wiring, without messing with the tone of channel 1 and 4. If you describe what you are exactly looking for tone-wise, then Peter can surely help out.

No, just get rid of your damned Hagen already :P

Did that along time ago...

My apologies... was confusing you with someone who was posting about now being satisfied with his Hagen... didn't mean to come off as rude!

:loco:

The Hagen and D-moll (at least the #1) have almost identical wiring and components and they sound and feel very different from one another in every aspect. Also the Herbert, VH4 and Einstein have a very similar preamp-wiring. I know it sounds weird but ask Peter. The electromagnetic fields of every resistor, capacitor, tube, transformer and current have a big influence on each other. Take the Soldano SLO-100: many manufactures copied the schematic, but none of these amps sound the similar to the original (also due to different transformers, but you get the idea).

Chris... don't shit in papa's house son.

I did not play the Hagen extensively. Will get mine next weekend!

My feeling was that the Hagen can actually sound close to a VH4 by using a parametric eq in the loop and tweaking the midrange and presence.
This shouldn't be a problem as the Hagen has 3(!!) to choose from.

The difference is made by the transformers not the circuit.

Best,
Peter

Interesting! So what would a Hagen sound like with a vh4 transformer?

Does anyone have Hagen and a vh4 to record a quick clip of the Hagen pre section going into the vh4 power section?

I don't, but I am curious as to how one would do this?

Guy's I'll be getting my Hagen and VH4 in about 2 weeks time. I can try this out for you.
