Seems like an awful lot of Les Paul guitars and nothing else there which again, limits your tone as well.

I brought in 3 guitars, but I don't think i played through the Herbert...

I started off playing an Ibanez SZ2020FM Prestige, then moved on to an Explorer, than my Silverburst Les Paul Custom.

but none of those sounded as good as what James Lugo had in his Les Paul...he has good pickups in his...

I think he uses Bareknuckle Pickups - they are excellent

Hell yeah........the VH4 was DELIVERING!!!!

FWIW I have my Bogner running from 10am till 4pm today. Then switched over to the V... Amazing how that amp just conjures a different style of playing. My shoulder was sore in 30 minutes from just mondo chugga chugga playing and fast, tight riffin'. Didn't feel any pain with the 20thA, but it was conjuring entirely DIFFERENT styles of music.

I turn the V on, and it's firebreathing time... The Terminator. Relentless beast.

Face melter.

  V.

YEAH!!!

In my opinion this amp needs EL34s for the mids.
Had all SED "C" 6550s in it, but missed the midrange growl from the EL34s.

Now, I have 4 x EL34s and 2 x SED "C" 6550s in mine and this combination is killer

I think Pauly's got 4 x 6550's and 2 x EL34's and he's a firm believer in that combo - I also tend to believe what he has to say considering I've heard his tunes and his clips. AND he's a MEGA Herbert fan

yes, i do. and i love it. It really kills in the amp. I think ive tried every tube combo. Like this one the most out of all of them. :D

In the ampfest. WCR American steel neck and WCR godwood bridge in his main LP. His other one (drop tuned) had wb fire in the bridge.

This mix I tried before. But I am just to much into midrange growl of the el34s :D
4 of them and 2 of the 6550s to add the little bit of extra clarity and omph, thats my favourite

everyones got their flavor they like. None are wrong.  all just preference.

Yes, you are right. To quote an awesome player "If it sounds good, it IS good"

I'm so happy that the VH4 blew away the other amps.
I feel that any Diezel amp put up against an amp of similar type would win.
But then we all know that anyway.

I'd like to see the Schmidti compete in the mid gain class... :aww:

It would kill the Bad Cat and the Mesa

I wish the Einstein was there as well competing in the mod squad videos... But these are not the most popular Diezel amps out there so I wasn't expecting them to be in the shootout since the majority of the people that own Diezel have either a VH4 or a Herbert. In this forum anyway...

man what was up with the herbie clip???? none of mine sound that anemic and weak, if anything mine are too big and dark compared to most amps. WEIRD!!

It's too bad the guys in the booth had so much input on what each amp's settings should be. I'm surprised they were making requests to change amp settings based on what they were hearing in the studio through the mic. If it sounded good live in the room with the amp then that was the fault of the recording setup not capturing it accurately, and not the fault of the amp or its settings.

They were listening to the amps as if they were recorded through a mic. There are so many variables on the recorded sound, including mic position and the mic type used, as well as the cabinet and speakers. That could favor some amps over others, as was probably the case with the Herbert. I would rather have had the guys in the room with the amps tweaking them and judging which was best. Then the mic'd recording would just be saved as a reference later. The guys in the studio shouldn't have been dictating what settings should be used.

So to me this was really a shootout of "which amp records best with that cab and that mic at that mic location in that room?" :) Nice opportunity to compare amps, but their method was flawed.

well, thanks to opinions like yours, those videos are gone.

Cool! I'm ordering a preamp that suits 6550's to switch in with the loop, but I am a bit scared off losing the EL34B grind I have now. Was there a noticeable improvement with 2 x EL34s in there vs all 6550s? And would an EL34B pair be just as good?

I really want to try that percussive rhythm tone! :)
