The Custom/59 Hybrid (what they were talking about) is a different pickup. Not honky whatsoever. Very open, dynamic, good push, not mushy. The Custom is pretty honky—in the wrong guitar it can be too much IME
Yeah. Lots of guys get caught up in too hot of an output, and get a shit sounding pickup. This has a classic voicing and is medium output. You can make it nasty with a heavy picking hand. As it fucking should beThe Custom/59 Hybrid (what they were talking about) is a different pickup. Not honky whatsoever. Very open, dynamic, good push, not mushy.
That’s exactly what it does…more openness and clarity…the 24v mod is the same size as a 9 volt so no space issues like sticking 2 9 volts in there.Hey! I have a new Soloist with EMG 85/81 set. Been thinking about disconnecting the mostly useless tone knob, hopefully opening up the sound a bit. What does the 24v kit do? Not that it's muddy, but more openess and clarity would be good.
As always, SH-5.
Id take one of those too ...but probably wouldn't be happy.Corrected.
We all here things different, I suppose, but the mids in a Custom are pretty relaxed. They do have more high mids, but honky would be the last adjective I'd use to describe a Custom. The Custom is pretty honky—in the wrong guitar it can be too much IME
