when ever I have owned a "dull" sounding guitar I put stainless steel strings on .... will be dull no longer and a LOT cheaper than going down the pick up route so might be worth giving a go first

FUZZ, FB is maple, I play other boards, but first love is maple fingerboard. Syth, that's a great suggestion. Thank You!!!! I'm gonna have to do those other mods too FUZZ. Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions!!

dude, get the Duncan super v, it is the Duncan custom shop lynch model, but I think they stopped making it, but it is an awesome pickup and would be GREAT in your guitar. it is somewhat like a hot rodded PAF with more grind, balls, articulation and touch sensitivity. you can still find them and they rule! also the suhr ssh+

Thanks moon!!!! I'm a lynch fanboy so I know the super v lol. SD will actually make one from the custom shop too. Love the clips I've heard of that thing. Nasty and clear at the same time.

Have you tried an EMG 85 in the bridge? I suspect your ESP has an 81. I hate the 81 but love the 85. Might be worth a try. If your ESP has an 85 in the neck, unplug it and try it in the bridge.

I'd second this. Did this swap a few years back in my jackson dinky and never looked back. I also run the 18volt mod on that setup.

I'm definetly more open to emg now that I saw the external power supply. Curious about the 18volt mod and what it does too. Gonna check that out as well. Thanks guys!!

Seymour Duncan 59 and a JB in a second. I had that exact guitar a few years ago and I felt the same way you did went 59 and JB and could not have been happier I look back and kick myself in the ass for selling it Dammit now I am kicking myself in the ass again right now THANKS DUDE  . there are all sorts of bad ass pickups out there but that combo has been a staple of hard rock for years. I have them in my LP right now and am about to put some in a strat next week. to me actives are just to hot, but tone is subjective.

Gtrplr thanks!!!! Sorry man, lol. It's definetly a tried and true combo and good to know it cuts through the stone finish. Thanks again for the help!!

Bare Knuckle - Holy Diver. I will say the Duncan JB sounded great in all of the Jackson guitars I've owned but I didn't like it in anything else.

Mojotone seems to make some pretty cool pickups. The only companies I know that have done the ceramic mag and alnicoV in one pickup is mojotone with the black magics and BKP with the juggernaut. I've been thinking about getting a pro series dinky as well. Mostly the hardtail, maple fretboard, blue quilt finish. Forgot what the finish is called, nope I remember, chlorine burst. I wonder if you could swap out the jackson bridge for a hipshot. I too wanted to get one of those to just mod. New pickups, locking tuners and a different bridge if possible. I like that the dinky' volume & tone knobs aren't directly underneath the bridge pickup, more so underneath the bridge itself. What do you like about the Dinky/pro series? There's a lot of decent guitars in that price range.

The chlorine burst is amazing!!!!!!! I love the feel of the neck. I was a big Ibanez rg550 fan and I love the neck on the Jackson a million times more. The dinky wasn't something I was looking for specifically. I had some gear I was selling/trading and price wise this was a really nice score. I love reverse headstock, I tend to go with oddball colors/finishes(I'm not a fan of black or white) and the maple fingerboard was big. I love the feel of this thing. I had it setup and it just smokes and it's all stock. I'd love to replace the bridge and tuners, but for what I do with it, what's on it is fine. After playing this and falling in love, I want a new one(non reverse, non Floyd, bright blue ). Not sure it will fit the budget anytime, but I won't hesitate if it does.
