The best way is to try it all. Probably the sh-5 with the 300k pots will be great.

quite possibly, possibly not. maybe your ears like a darker, more subdued tone.

all you can do is try different pups in your axes and find what you like and keep asking questions!

it would help a bit if you posted your "goal" tone..or a ballpark of what you're trying to achieve.

I don't know how you feel about Coheed and Cambria, but Claudio uses a ton of Explorer's and puts the Bare Knuckle Nailbombs in all the bridge positions.

I have a pair in a mahogany/maple tele and love them.

Interesting. I have a duncan custom (sh-5) in my horizon III, which is alder with maple neck through, and it sounds amazing to me through my 5150 212 combo. Also, I have a V with mahogany body and neck, and Im running a JH set in it, and it sounds amazing as well. They sound really similar, actually.

I would recommend the duncan custom or dimarzio dominion. I would also recommend the het set. Really, there are so many friggin options, though, that its gonna be really hard to decide, so I wish you luck on your quest. I tried tons of hand made boutique pickups before decided that duncan, dimarzio, and EMG are just as good as any of them.
