And I was underwhelmed to say the least. The Dirty Shirley right next to it on the other hand was KILLER!!! I had never played one before and it rips. Has a lot more gain than I expected. I have yet to play a Friedman that wasnt awesome

How much were you able to turn up the Silver Jubilee Reissue? I know with my 2553, it really needs some volume to shine or it can sound a bit buzzy.

Played a DS, liked it. But not more than a boosted Jubilee. Havent tried the RI but I hear the bias needs adjusting. The originals I've had easily measure up to any Friedman I've tried, with a boost in front. I've played a BE, SB, JJ, DS. All are nice. But the Jubilee is half the price. Unless there's a huge difference between original/RI it's no contest. Marshall ftw.

The volume of the amp was the biggest surprise to me. I was in the "high end" room of the GC and I was able to turn it up 3/4 of the way open and the amp wasn't loud at all. Definitely wouldn't have kept up with a drummer at that volume. I played an EVH lunchbox and it destroyed it in every category , including volume! Maybe I got a bad egg with that particular Jube

Hmm. That sounds odd. What did you have the Lead Master and Output Master at? What was "3/4 of the way open"?

I always had the output master wide open, and adjusted lead master as my master. Didn't need the clean too often. But both should be above 5-6 to get the best out of it. I've read that they come biased waay cold though, and in a Marshall that's sterile city until adjusted. V30s are great with a Jubilee. Maybe it was a dud? People seem to compare them favorably to the originals though.

100 watt Marshall turned 3/4 of the way up that wouldn't keep up w a drummer?? Yeah something was wrong w that amp for sure.

The original Jubilees are generally considered to have less power than a comparable JCM800, but they are still loud. They are also known for varying a good deal as well. Still sounds like that particular reissue you tried had issues.

Saul's tone on the AFD tracks was great but it was all downhill from there.

I never met a Jube i had to have, there is an original 100 Silver head & 4x12 for sale just minutes away.

Friedman's are great at what they do but they may not be the perfect fit for everyone.

Theres a guy in town that claims to have Slash's original Jube head from the 91' riot.

Sorry, but I find comments such as "played a _______ over the weekend" to be very off-putting. OK, so you were underwhelmed, but you not only failed to offer any explanation and detail, you also picked possibly the most underwhelming Friedman. Yeah, I just said that. I've played all the Friedmans many times and happen to own a Silver Jubilee RI. The Dirty Shirley sounds great for a few things, but it doesn't have much diversity and needs pedals to compliment it. I don't like the feel of it compared to a Smallbox or other Friedmans, and the 5881 type seem to has a faint flatness and sterility that makes it not quite right. I adore the sound of Soldano amps, but they too have the 5881 thing that just doesn't mesh well with me.

Having said that, the Silver Jubilee is more diverse but is also harder to dial in and requires other things such as the right speakers, pedals, and the right volume. If all of those things aren't in place, it will be underwhelming. Also, it lends itself best to certain things. Probably it's greatest strength is it's lead tones. It also has a clean/crunch channel which is incredible, but also hard to balance when switching between channels.

You might win some brownie points from the Friedman club, but I can't appreciate a post like that because it sounds like a biased, uninformed statement at best. Next time instead of contributing what amounts to "this _____wasn't that great when i played it for 5 minutes through a Marshal MG cab at Guitar Center, but this (popular) _____ is awesome. Ga ga ga....", it will be useful to hear a semi-thoughtful explanation.

Slash didn't record any GNR albums with a Jubilee. It was his live amp. And I actually prefer his UYI tones to AFD.

I also own a Jube RI, and it sounds fantastic,,,loud as hell, Cusak Screamer V2 in front,,,absolute best bang for the buck I have right now. Maybe you had the half power switch on the front on? They previous poster was correct, this amp requires som dialing in and can get great tones.

Never played a reissue, Had a 2553 that sounded great with a few tweaks. Marshall waited too long to reissue this for my taste but they have their resons and I have mine.

That was my point the SIR amp he recorded AFD with and [stole] was his best tone.

He showed up at SIR to record a year later with the stolen amp and they stole it back LOL.

Ok. Guess I'm just confused why you brought that up in a Jubilee thread if you knew he didn't record with one

U okay man ? Sound a little Territorial ...

Jubes, Slash, AFD is kinda all the same shit Aaa ... ?

I was in my late 20's in the mid 80's i know all about this shit.

Norton has had his own music shop im not surprised Marshall is putting out lame amps.

After discontuning the JCM-2000 i discontiuned them.

Sorry. Just seemed irrelevant is all. You might as well have said Eddies tone was great on the first Van Halen record and all down hill from there. Completely irrelevant to a Jubilee discussion. See what I mean? Mind you I guess you're pretty known for irrelevant statements.

Talking amps on an amp forum who woulda thought.

Carry on.

BTW Engineer Santiago Alvarez who ive had the pleasure of chatting with the last few years and helped me decide to use Mr. Friedmans services has left Marshall.

He designed the JVM, YJM & AFD among other things.

Look for no vision other than sunglasses, cell phones & mini fridges from Marshall UK.

I would love to buy a Marshall amp thats worth a shit .... really.

Make one and i'll buy it.
