Playing this dirty amp brought back childhood memories

I played a BV120 for a while. I bought it brand new after trying one out at Steve's Music in Toronto. It sounded good to me at the time as a 20 year old. I just wanted an amp with a shit ton of gain.

At the same time, my buddy bought a brand new 5150. I made the wrong choice. It was okay playing by myself, but in the band, it was nowhere near as loud as the 5150. He'd have his volume at 2, mine would be at 7 and still struggling to not be buried. The problem with the Blue Voodoo is that is has this fizzy high end, decent low end, but lacks any useful mids. It just can't cut through. You can cut the treble, turn the mids up, turn the gain down, and it helps, but I was always struggling to get a decent tone at band levels.

I didn't have the knowledge at the time, but I'll bet an EQ in the loop would do wonders for that amp. That, and of course lower the gain and put a boost in front.

I'd like to pick up another one at some point just to mess around with.

I'm almost positive that I heard Lee Jackson designed the BV120. Not sure though.
Great story ? Years ago my second amp ever was a Fender M80 1x12 Combo with the Grey furry material on the outer shell and it was an open back with a factory Eminence speaker and I remember I would have to plug it in to an extension cab in order for it to try and keep up with another guitarist or in a band setting for that matter. I remember the cleans were really good on that amp and the distortion channel reminded me of somewhat of a Pantera sound.
 
I have no idea who designed it. There' not much info on that floating around.
 
I remember in high school, a local pawn shop had a BV 1x12 combo that I drooled over for the longest time. I never actually played or heard one, but the ads in whatever guitar magazine I had convinced me that it would be great.

I pulled out my secondary BV300 and messed around with it earlier today. I've played it as a bass amp before, but haven't ever tried running any of my bass preamps through it. Since the power section is virtually the same as an Ampeg SVT the first ones I had to try were my SVP-CL and SVP-Pro. I ran the preamps directly into the return. The return level knob acted as a master volume. No Idea how this would compare to an actual SVT, but it sounded pretty damn good. To m ears it fully gave that SVT tone.

I ran through the other bass preamps I have; Eden Navigator, GK 2001RBP, and Randall MTS. All of them sounded really good and had a nice feel going through the Voodoo's 300 watt tube power amp. Going through it straight as a bass amp works out really well too. The clean channel is more than useable and had a nice bass tone. As long as I stay conservative on the gain, going through the crunch and lead channels works well too. Moving it past noon stars to get a bit too saturated for bass. Having the Eek & Ugh (presence & resonance) really helped fine tune the clarity an bring in the low end thump.

What I need to do now is clear out a space so I can have it permanently set up as a bass amp and run my preamps though it instead of my Mesa Titan.

My first tube amp was a Crate Turbo 50H head and the matching 4x12. I was playing with a local death metal band at 15 and thought it was the greatest thing ever. I ran a Digitech RP10 into the clean channel, Bass: 10 Mids: 0 Treble: 10 because I'd read it in a manual somewhere that this is how you get a metal tone from an amp. I remember one day I walked into the practice room and the other guitarist had dialed in an actual decent tone on the dirty channel of my amp and my mind was blown. All the big death metal bands of the mid 90s were using Crate. Great times.
