Polytune in line going to suck tone?

I've got an audition wed night for a band and I want to go in as light as possible. I'm thinking JCM800 combo (will be mic'd into mixer and PA) with guitar into polytune / koko / BOSS Super Chorus / ISP decimator and an Ibanez DE-7 sitting in the loop one delay fits all type of thing "set it and forget it" rather than worrying about running longer cables to my loop and having a flashback x 4 out front. I just want to have to minimize the things I need to f-ck around with out front (loop pedal channel A vs B ) because it is my first time back playing guitar again after playing drums in a band since god knows when.

For backup, I am bringing a bad monkey with speaker sim to run directly into board if all else fails which will be boosted by the koko. Might throw in a phaser for the VH bits but other than that it is straight 80's chorused tones.

Will I experience any major suck? I figure the koko has a buffer built in so why make life difficult.
 
I always have a volume pedal on my board, which is also handy to run the tuner-out into a Polytune which is always on.
 
Are you using the volume pedal out front to boost overall volume of your amp for leads?
 
Does the Poly tune suck tone? Most of the TC pedals do not. Just wondering.....

Seriously man, this is something trivial not worth worrying about at an audition. Compared to being prepared, being on time, knowing the material, making no mistakes, having backups for things that could break, playing confidently, and presenting yourself well... the potential tone loss from a high-quality pedal used by touring professionals all over the world is so insignificant it's not even worth thinking about. You should be thinking about other things.

Good point! To be honest i didn't even waste time with my pedalboard.. I had about a week to learn 6 songs I had never learned before including the solos and that's all I have been focused on. To be honest, I usually am super picky about sounding like the record but sometimes you don't have the time to so you hit the main parts of the solos and use the same shape for everything else. You know.. Lynch styles! I had forgotten how long it takes to do this.. with work and responsibilities there never seems to be enough time in a day. I'm going to keep it simple and run it all in front, with a cheapo PA system you get in jam spaces I doubt I'll notice a nuance when the bass is being trapped in the corners and a cymbal is crashing in my ear.

As I understand it, the pedal is at unity when it's at full, so I use it to back off a bit when I need to (which is a lot of the time).

I just got used to using one, after a session guy I know told me to get one and always have one.

I think it gives you a bit of freedom in terms of tones you can dial in on the fly. Beween your guitars volume and the pedal... Not to mention the tuner out, which is a lot more bad ass than it immediately may seem :lol: :LOL:

I usually try and get a tone where my main rhythm gain tone is with the guitars volume set at 6 or 7. I can lightly adjust further with the Volume pedal, and then just crank both of them for the lead. It gives your tone a certain cohesiveness, especially from a playing point of view, when you are more or less only relying on 'dynamics' in the chain.
In my case anyway.

But I wouldn't worry about the tuner in any case. All TC products I have had, have been solid. Especially the Poly.

:confused: Thats not even close to "as light as possible". If they are a band the probably have speaker cabs around--if it were me I'd ask and see if I could just bring a smaller head.
 
Yeah I was thinking i'd use whatever solid state head was there but they haven't been to this studio before so they aren't sure what is there. I'm certain there are cabs there but don't want to chance it... besides that, my other head is a seemingly 100lbs lynchbox head so the 1 x 12 combo cab is actually a tad lighter! In a perfect world, 5 watt amp mic'd up.

The Polytune itself is true bypass and doesn't suck tone. What *could* suck tone is 20' of cable to your board, and 20' back to an amp. that's a long cable run, if you didn't have a buffer. but... Your Boss CH1 has a buffer in it, so that will help you in your tone too, restore some of the highs.

The Koko boost has a switchable buffer too, doesn't it?
 
Yup, it has a buffer in it that is switchable. I should prob check that because i got it used so not sure if someone had put it in the "on" position. It sounds the way i like it right now and that could be the reason why it sounds so good. I'm thinking the wah's are usually the biggest offenders in the tone suck game and I am not going to have one in line for this audition.
 
I've got a Polytune.... No tone suck. It's true bypass, so if you're experiencing any tone suck, check your cables and the other pedals...
