Lately I cannot stop reading about DIY amp stuff and a Metro kit is on the horizon as soon as I sell some more gear. All week I've been reading every troubleshooting thread I can find over at Metro, 50w, 100w doesn't matter I can't get enough of this stuff. Spent an hour or so reading about different types of PPIMV's and Jose Master volume stuff. Another few hours researching lead dress and different techniques to address noise issues.

Let's see your DIY and Metro amp projects!

My last build was over three years ago. It was a Carmen Ghia clone. I need to get back into it but I've just not been to motivated lately :aww:

Ive got a Half Weber/Half Metro type thing. It is basically a 2203 with an extra gain stage and a depth knob. Its a pretty killer sounding amp. Biggest downfall it is has way too much gain

This is the board from Killertone's 50 watt plexi

All of them, Randy? :D

:D

Anything you want to post Olaf. I seriously can't get enough of this at the moment. I have 2 amps for sale locally so that I can get a 100 MV and possibly purple head shell from MetroAmp. There is a 2203/1959 switchable circuit that I want to try badly. Or maybe just a super lead with a foot switchable MV or gainboost.

I got GAS!!!

EL34's. Ive thought about trying 6550's, I just never have.

I love the old school Fear Factory tone, so that was my goal :) But, I also tried to keep it fairly traditional so it will do other Marshall sounds as well.

Got the 50 watt Bogen Vplexi up and running again and it sounds GREAT! One of the resistors on the PPIMV I installed had come loose due to a bad solder joint. Man I love that little amp and I can't wait to build a BIG ONE   ;)

Cant post pics, says file attached is invalid  I have no idea why.... sorry

I didn't build this, but it is pretty cool, fun amp to play,It's a 10 watt amp with 1 El34 power tube an EF86 preamp tube and a 5v4G rectifier tube
the builder called it a supro, valco, champ killer

Heres a madamp A15mkII I built:

Its my first built. Could be neater inside but its pretty damn quiet so I'm happy enough.
I've done a few mods to it since I got it working. Added gain, changed voicing, added a (sort of) jose master. Next week the bits I need to change the TS to a james type with a mid shift should come so I can see how I feel about that.

I'm currently designing a scratch build which will run 3 ECC83s (no loop, never use them) and 2 KT88s.
Preamp design:
preamp.png

This is an old revision, not sat at my pc with all the stuff on. Probably going to change the TS to a james with mid shift rather than have an FMV.

chassis shot:
DSC00183.jpg

Posing some bits on the chassis just to get a vague idea of how things could look. Chassis and OT bought from the valve wizard. The OT is a little small so I may well replace it at some point. PT is just some crap I had lying about. I may well drill the chassis for 4 ECC83s although I'll probably only use 3.

I havent done any work on this in quite a while. Had a lot of work on, then stag doos and weddings to organise things for to eat into my time. I hope to get back on with it in the next few days. Next up is finalising the PI and NFB loop.

You can follow all my ideas and rantings here:
