Well I got the guitar at the tail end of 2022 and it still has the protective stickers on the pickups and pickguard.
I can tell you it’s a keeper for 2023 and I’ve played the living shit out of it in 2023.
I am gonna have Callaham make me a ABR/tailpiece and change the adjuster controls and get Bare Knuckle pots/caps.
All my Super-Killer’s get the Callaham set-up.
Very expensive but for me, the difference is MASSIVE.
For me, THAT moment you strike the instrument,
RIGHT THERE!..-and that ass-end set-up has got to accommodate-kinda’ like where a golf club iron edge hits the golf ball,- RIGHT THERE!
The pickups are awesome.
Not too high output but a good slightly overwound vibe but very clear and juicy, I think there’s different magnets for the top 3 strings & the bottom 3 strings, nice tight flutey’/biting neck pickup.
The bridge pickup is dope AF, kinda reminds me of
a Classic 57’s with more jangle & juice.
The pots/caps are questionable so they go in the St Mary’s River.
But I’d be totally good with the guitar stock.
-I’m not trying to put lipstick on a pig here,
-I’m putting lipstick on a Kingfish.- LTFOL!(sorta).

Scored a 2012 traditional with the original snakeskin case yesterday. Pairs well with my 77 2203 I picked up at the beginning of the year.

Yea I dig their amps. I had an Orangutan for a bit but landed this Virgil and it stuck. It’s similar to the actual BW model but lower watt and foot-switchable gain. They both go for the Marshall/hiwatt sound though

That’s real nice looking for a Traditional. I don’t think I’ve seen any with tops that nice in recent years.

It’s a traditional plus from what research I’ve done. That top is the main reason I bought it. It has an insane 3d top that even the new 50’s standards didn’t have. It also has 3 birds eye spots too that change from dark to light when you look at it from different angles.

New Warmoth Roasted Maple/dark Rosewood neck, already had the Pine body. Swapped the Callaham bridge for a Rutters just because I already had it. Also put new Lollar pickups in place of the Cavaliers and flipped the control plate to have volume up front.

It's a Mad Professor Red cable that was given to me. Supposedly the magnetic field in the red cable reduces the signal loss that according to them happens in all cables, tone is more balanced and no phase canceling so they say. Honestly I can't really tell a whole lot of difference with out it, but it looks cool and it's stupid expensive.

These showed up recently to kick off 2023 for me:

SVL 61 Reserve. The guy who owns it has a few SVL and quite a few Fender Custom Shops and the SVL played and sounded much better to me. These are made by Simon Law, guitar tech to Matt Schofield, Robben Ford, Pete Townsend, etc. Guys were worrying about bringing their vintage gear out on the road, so he started building these guitars (to recreate the tone and feel of early 60s/late 50s strats) and pulled it off. This isn’t like danocaster who get necks and bodies from other suppliers. Simon gets air dried wood from the same era that the guitars were built. These sound and feel so much better than any fender custom I’ve played. The one I have has a really dark and uniform fretboard. Love that.

Here is an older video of some of the first guitars he built. Even then, sounding really good.
