I currently have a PPIMV installed in my vplexi bogen chassis, the popular one from Metroamp forums, and it sounds great but i've heard that using a 100k dual pot instead of the 250k will add a bit of gain to things. Has any tried this yet? If so what were your results?

I haven't changed any of the filtering or other values because I really dig the character of this amp. I am really curious about this simple mod though.

edit: I am pretty sure this is the diagram for the PPIMV that I am using. Its been a while since I've installed it so I dont' remember exactly lol.

Im confused now. I thought lowering the POT Lessens the gain?

That's not the regular Rich mod in that diagram...that's the "LarMar" mv?

Yep, the LarMar MV.

You lose any low mids when using that LarMar master? It's the one I've got in my plexi now and it kills my low mids when I turn it down. I'm going to Blankenship and he's gonna put in the one that's in his Custom 45 - like the one DonBarzini has.

And you guys can live with the fact that it completely fucks the NFB at lower volumes?

I've had the Larry PPIMV and the Rich - all to the dumpster - a Marshall without presence is like a man without balls

I like the post-CF-master á la Jose much better. Give it a try.

Olaf, does the jose mv give decent results without the diodes? I wouldn't really want any extra distortion out of it...

I can totally live with it just as long as it sounds good!! Both my PPIMV's sound killer to my ears!

Hi Ralph,

are you using it all by itself or with an attenuator? That changes things of course. The NFB is off at very low settings, with an attenuator its somehow back of course. Its just me, you know, I need presence with them . . .

It's not just you. That's a big reason why I don't have any mv right now.

Ive done Both Brother!! Sounds killer on its own and even better with an attenuator canked up a bit. I never noticed a loss of presence but then again, I like darker tones anyway! Id love to try the Jose Master but Im to much of an Idiot to install it!!

YOU ROCK!

The Fischer MV is pretty easy.

250K dual pots - basically replace the 220K Bias Splitter Resistors. It's regarded as "unsafe" but hell, that's what makes like fun.

While a PPIMV may knock out the presence control - an attenuator does a whole lot more changes to the tone!

I dont really notice a loss of mids with mine course I dont exactly play it low either lol. I put bass volume on 12oclock or so, treble around 3-4 and the master on atleast 10 oclock.

I would be interested in any other low volume, screaming PPIMV's. I really like the tone I have right now its very rock n roll, but if I could easily install another one that would add some gain I'd be up for it. :D

Thats why one adds 2M2 Rs to it . . .

Adding gain isn't really a prob, tweedy. Whats the circuitry? (the preamp)

Sending you a PM. ;)

Anyone have a diagram for the Jose MV? I always installed the Rich mod on my old Marshalls, and I have one old plexi that already had a different type of PPIMV. There are two additional capacitors on that one. Not familiar what "style" of PPIMV that one is.

I'd like to try the Jose MV if it preserves the NFB while still incorporating the PI tube in the preamp.
