And you guys can live with the fact that it completely fucks the NFB at lower volumes?

I've had the Larry PPIMV and the Rich - all to the dumpster - a Marshall without presence is like a man without balls

I like the post-CF-master á la Jose much better. Give it a try.

Exactly how i feel about the PPIMV! Jose master all the way!

Anyone have a diagram for the Jose MV? I always installed the Rich mod on my old Marshalls, and I have one old plexi that already had a different type of PPIMV. There are two additional capacitors on that one. Not familiar what "style" of PPIMV that one is.

I'd like to try the Jose MV if it preserves the NFB while still incorporating the PI tube in the preamp.

Yup the Jose doesnt mess with the NFB because its not a PPIMV. Its a Post Cathode Follower MV.

Here's a diagram of the Jose Master:

Ignore the label's on the diode, and just use 2 20v Zeners connected like in the pic, instead of 1 zener + 1 regular diode.

Got any clips of that?

It's an odd placement...

Cool, thanks!

I notice that it is before the PI tube. Am I mistaken to assume this master volume has less preamp gain than the other PPIMV designs?

The master volume (and PPIMV's too) don't do anything with gain - just with a PPIMV, you can slam the crap out of the phase inverter from the preamp's level, causing it to distort (it would do the same without the PPIMV), with a standard MV, it's in front of the PI "protecting" it, until you crank the level up.

It's *part* of that "cranked amp sound"... :)

The Jose master with the 2 20v Zener diodes does add a little bit of distortion, not gain though. It gives the impression that there is more gain though, as it clips in a certain good way!

Ralle did some VH clips when he added the Jose Master to his Metro build. Send him a PM at the Metro board and he can probably hook you up with clips, i think they're in his soundclick page but i dont know which ones they are!

Mark Cameron posted up a clip of the Jose Master added to a stock 1959RI SLP, the clip isnt great quality but you can definitly hear what the diode master does to the tone!

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=741160

Click on the clip titled 1959RI
