Played a PRS of a buddy of mines yesterday.... VERY NICE! I don't have the coin to throw down on one of those.. so is there an alternative diamond in the rough that some other company makes that compares for us more fiscally challenged? I've see they make a foreign made SE version.. is that the way to go and maybe swap out the pickups?

Look up Atlas...there was one for sale in the classifieds a few months ago. Had a great top...

Might want to check out the Carvin California Carvetop and Singlecut. More expensive than a SE, but cheaper than a USA-made PRS.

Are the PRS SE series more than you can spend?

Carvin makes amazing guitars for the price. I'm really happy with both of my CT6s and my DC727.
Lots of people don't like their pickups because they're very bright and don't put out a lot of bass...but they work well for me.

It's also possible that they will install different pickups for you if you ship the pickups you want to them.

No.. the SE line is within my budget. I was just curious about the quality opposed to other possible manufacturer makes that could give better quality for the same price.

You can take his mouth....we'll get an "Airtight" going.

patience and buy used.

I have a Standard 24 that I absolutely love. it totally fits my hands, has a great tone and sustain to die for.

I agree on trying to find a Carvin California Carved Top. Those things are amazing. Carvings are underrated guitars for sure. Or shop around and try to find a PRS used.
I'll probably get flamed for recommending this, but if above recommendations are still too pricey, try a Schecter c-1 classic. I love mine. It doesn't quite have the tone of a PRS but it plays beautifully, looks great, and stays in tune. Great guitar for the money.

Carvins are sweet, but even they can be expensive. the SE line is pretty good, though not the same as their regular line. I think Ibanez makes some great guitars that are affordable

I have to say I made an impulse buy. Was looking online and found a cosmetic blem PRS SE Singlecut Hardtail in Tobacco Burst... with the blem discount and a coupon $350 shipped! I can fix the blem but actually don't care all that much as it will be a playing guitar and get banged up anyway over time. Now I'll have some extra $$ to put towards a new low watt amp.

You won't be sorry; the SE's are nice guitars. I just sent back a Carvin and bought two SE's, and the fit and finish is as good. I've had 4 Carvins, and they've all been decently made, but all had cosmetic issues with them, and they all sounded sterile and bright as shit.
