Played a PRS of a buddy of mines yesterday.... VERY NICE! I don't have the coin to throw down on one of those.. so is there an alternative diamond in the rough that some other company makes that compares for us more fiscally challenged? I've see they make a foreign made SE version.. is that the way to go and maybe swap out the pickups?

HAMER ARCHTOP STUDIO!!!! Buy one used for less than a grand, some even around $600. Same wood, US made, beautiful craftsmanship, and well known amongst the musicians circle as a HUGE back seat sleeper in the world of quality ax's for cheap. I have one, been playing it for 16+ years, awesome workmanship, no fails whatsoever, I plunked some super high grade pups into it and my tech just laughed and said "hell, there's a top-line PRS for near $2500 less". Plays smooth, wicked contours, and with a set of BKP Riff Raff's installed, it's golden. I have a mess of high quality ax's in my studio and session space - every time someone comes along who needs to throw down a line or thought, it's the go-to guitar, when I as well as they could easily pick from any of the Lesters I have, ESP's, Suhr's, Vigier's, etc. Weird eh??

Check it out.

Peace,
V.

get a se and swap the pickups, they are great guitars and the best value in that class. love mine

I have to say I made an impulse buy. Was looking online and found a cosmetic blem PRS SE Singlecut Hardtail in Tobacco Burst... with the blem discount and a coupon $350 shipped! I can fix the blem but actually don't care all that much as it will be a playing guitar and get banged up anyway over time. Now I'll have some extra $$ to put towards a new low watt amp.
Pics or it's a Cort. :D

this.

YES!! I've been keeping an eye out for one of these with P-90s. Looking for either a gold-top or black. I'll throw some hand-wounds into it and watch it shit all over a $3000+ PRS

I'd go with a Carvin if you want to pay less for a better guitar.

Well here she is...and it's not a Cort.. :D She isn't perfect as I knew this going in.. You can see the chip in the finish on the lower left.. but with some stain and a little poly (or whatever the top coat is) she'll look good enough. For $350, who cares about a little wear? It's actually right where my arm lays so isn't even noticeable when playing. Plays great!

Very nice! Love that top.

I'd just hit the chip with a sharpie...

Thanks brother.. the top actually matches better in person than the camera shows.. I'm a sucker for a good sunburst.

Atlas for sure, and if you can find a used one you will have
an awsome guitar for life. And they're handmade.

Carvin makes amazing guitars for the price. I'm really happy with both of my CT6s and my DC727.
Lots of people don't like their pickups because they're very bright and don't put out a lot of bass...but they work well for me.

It's also possible that they will install different pickups for you if you ship the pickups you want to them.

Sounds about right. I've played a few Carvins and i thought they all sounded like crap.
