In order to understand that kinda behavior, you really “had to have been there” on 4chan circa 2007 through 2009

It comes from a mode of interaction that isn’t about exchange of information, but instead is about a kind of frantic rapid-fire provocation attempt with the expectation that the thread and content will be deleted or buried soon

To whatever extent that mode “worked” on image boards (*chans), it doesn’t work on a normal forum

I don’t really think these guys were “there” themselves, but clearly they’ve picked up that behavior (at some level of separation or other) from those who were
