Put EL34's In My Twin Jet....

Be interested to compare to other Uber revisions now that you have 34's in. I've found that I'm just a EL34 guy for the most part, for high gain. I can rock an SLO though, that amp gives me a good vibe.

I am surprised when i hear comments from people they prefer 6L6 and KT88 loaded amps for the smoother, rounder top end. Often commenting having more mid scopp from 6L6 and KT88s is good because the amp provides the mids. I disagree, I find nothing thicker and smoother than EL34s in my amps.

I never got the whole '6L6's and KT88's are good because the amp circuit provides the mids' argument...Any extra high end is in competition with the cymbals and the low end is dominated by the bass guitar and kick drum...to me the guitar is all about having a great midrange...those extra highs and lows might sound great when you're jamming alone, but in a band mix, who in the audience, or behind the board is really going to appreciate it?

And I never got the whole 6L6 is smoother in the top end comment either. 6L6's are absolutely harsher and fizzier in the highs. I was always trying to compensate...with 34's, there is no need to. My ears appreciate it, too.

Yep, and in amps where I use clean and high gain I am still fine with the EL34s. I still get great cleans with EL34s.

I was close to buying a 6L6 amp like the Krank Chadwick or a Mesa Boogie but I always come to the realization I love EL34 amps. And if you do it right...you can have a lot of EL34 amps and all sound different. :)

So far I have an older VHT ST/50 stock with EL34s and a Bogner 20th Shiva with EL34s on the way. Now I am looking for a third amp to complete the trilogy. LOL! Wish I could find the perfect Marshall or EL34 Mesa Boogie.
