Who makes the best powered speakers?
For the Axe-II...??

This is a big question, most cats are gonna say "you have to try it out to know", and "whatever suits your ears". Don't even bother asking this question over at FAS if this is indeed a question regarding the Axe-II.

Let us know what the application is. Maybe from there you'll get some bites.

Peace,
Mojo

If you're asking about powered speakers for FOH applications, I chose the QSC KW series. I spent several hours at Sweetwater's Gear Fest last year doing direct comparison's of the QSC's to JBL's PRX series and Mackie's HD series (sorry, no experience with the EV's or Yamaha's...). The QSC's were far superior to the JBL's and marginally better than the Mackie's. A little research showed that the Mackie's had a number of warranty return complaints from owners, which tipped the scales in favor of the QSC's. I walked out with a pair of KW181's and a pair of KW153's. Kicked ass at 30 shows with them so far this year...

If you're asking about FRFR applications, never mind :D

Sorry guys I meant for FOH use but now that you mention it I would also like to know how well they work for preamps like the fractal. Thanks guys.

The Qsc KW series is the best of the bunch (IMHO) The K series is not nearly as good.
The JBL PRX is OK,
The Yamaha is very good, best bang for the buck. They sound great, have a lot of power, are are less expensive the others.
The EV, I dont know, haven't had any experience with them. (Yet)

I would think the KW153s would be killer for an AXEFX rig due to the midrange drivers delivering better mids IMO than a 2 way.

I just bought some KW153s after listening side by side with PRXs and just about everything else in GC side by side. They sounded WAY better than anything else in there. I'm looking to get a pair of KW181s for subs next and add another pair later. Have you had an problems filling decent sized rooms with those as FOH, IndyWS6?

We play rooms that can hold up to 300 people and there hasn't been a situaton yet where we felt like we needed additional power or coverage from the QSC's. I've been tempted to grab another pair of subs for more thump, but haven't been able to justify the expense based on how well the single pair works for the venues we play. Several of the bands around here wish they had my PA setup :D I'm very satisfied with the KW's...

About 6 months ago I directly compared the QSC K series and PRX 600 series. I thought the PRX 615 with a PRX618XLF was the best combo in the room. The XLF Sub is fantastic!!!

We use two subs and mains in most rooms. Some weird shaped or smaller rooms only call for one sub.

IMO, its hard to beat the QSC K12's, nice speakers.

I like the EV SX250A's as well, but they don't go as loud as the K12's.

Check the new Mackie DLM series.

QSC are great but expensive. I'd go Mackie HD or DLM.

Thanks guys for the info. I bought a pair of EV elx112p's just before i started this thread. They should be here tomorrow. I hope they're good.

Good luck with the EV's. I had two crap out on me paired with the Axe-FX II. My guitarist and I are both using a Mackie HD1221 with a QSC K10 on top. They balance each other out really well.
