I just listened to this on my phone and can barely tell a difference besides B seeming louder.

Headphones/monitors recommended

A for me. It has a little more color and clarity in the vibrato's. The note separation on the crunch is better to my ears too.
B is pretty darn close but as mentioned above it's a little looser with a touch more chew.

almost sounds like the same amp eq'd a little differently... bogner?

No but they are set for a similar crunch tone and both are getting hit with the same boost.

I also think I just set up my amps for a particular sound in my head and get most of them in the same playing field.

A is an einstein 50 on channel one, mode 2 “Texas”. It’s the most raw of all the gain modes and I can set it up for a familiar low-mid gain rock crunch and boost from there just like an 800. It has a lot more low end available but I don’t love monstrous huge low end cause I feel like it detracts from the upper mids and highs that I have to hear well to be happy.

B is a stock 2203 from 83. Comparatively, much brighter overall. Always fighting the brightness on these, and fighting to brighten up the Diezel. This is about where they meet in the middle. Much more cut, sometimes annoyingly so…just depends on the day and my mood.

Both are getting boosted with a SD 805. Cool pedal, not the best tool for every job but has its place.

Was fun playing these today. The Diezel is a cool alternative for the sound I go for. Want to try it in a band context next week and see if it can work as another option vs an 800. Can set them up and use them the exact same way- crunchy straight in rock sound, boost for high gain, roll back for cleans.

That says a lot about the Einstein moreso than the 83 marshall IMO. You don’t see many going after those but it’s good to know it’s that close to a marshall and in the Marshall wheelhouse at all to begin with. I said before I could take either but thats impressive that he tightened it up and cleaned up the chew but still offers the core Marshall tone even when boosted (which an amp can have a jackal and Hyde personality behind).

Whenever I listen to amp clips - especially room mic clips - I always imagine if I was hauled up on stage to sit in on a song or 2 with a band and this is the sound I heard when I plugged into the rig. Would I be able to relax and play, or is there something (anything) about the guitar sound that would really make it a chore to play. From that perspective, both of these tones are absolute winners. Hell, if I stepped up on stage and was blessed to play through either of these rigs, they’d need one of those shepherd hook things from the vaudeville days to haul me off the stage!!

I will say, the overall tone going on here is very similar to how I have my 50 watt QR dialed in. I do think the New/Old and Mid/Cut switches - along with willingness to try different speakers - solves the ‘weird mid’ thing that a good number of the early run Splawn amps were notorious for.
