Usually press down where the neck and body meet ( neck through sorry). I don't measure the relief, as long as there is the smallest gap and things aren't fretting out or buzzing we're good
I really need to invest in a few tools. With kids and grandkids my stuff has a tendency to disappear.
You think one of those set up kits on Amazon would be good?Dude, yes, you do
Having proper guitar tools around is one of the best investments I've ever made - just in doing side hustle work for other people around town, the tools have paid for themselves 10 times over.
Shit, just the fret tools paid for the rest 10 times over

Link ?Absolutely, I actually got one of those just for the files and feeler gauges a while back and its actually great
a lot of the guys on here making suggestions are right one. Don't necessarily need to measure, just make sure there is a tiny bit of relief and it isn't fretting and buzzing out. Having said that .010 mm is the right measuring thickness for that. Just go to amazon and buy a guitar set up kit for cheap and you'll be good. And what action distance do you guys prefer? 1 mm? .5 mm? Just curious…. Credit card is like 1 mm but that seems to much maybe.?
Any of you guys prefer a higher action? The last guitar I bought was professionally set up and the first thing I did was raise the action.
