Back a while ago I had posted about the Radial JDX vs. the Palmer passive DI boxes. I was wanting to do away with mics for cabs on smaller venues. Many of you may have tried these, but it is new for me. The Radial JDX is an active DI box and sounds shit hot through the PA without picking up the background clutter from the stage/monitors/drums, etc. It's close enough to being mic'd that I can't really tell much of a difference. I had bought and tried the Palmer boxes. They are passive in nature and have some settings for db reduction and cab control, as opposed to the active nature of the JDX. Being an active unit, it converts the electromagnetic pulses and senses the back pulse of the speaker cone and brings out a direct injection to the PA that so close to a mic impulse that is really not audible in difference. Studio may be a different story.
Anyway, if you have a similar desire to ditch the mics or combine a mic and a DI, check out the JDX over the passive Palmer's. And, it is made by our good friends in Canada....eh!
