Banging your Manager who's Family were Millionaires doesn't hurt either.
Much of Ozzy's success has little to do with himself.

I didn't say OZZY wrote the songs, I said the songs sold the albums. Randy had no legit worldwide fanbase before Ozzy. I would argue Randy's playing is much more hailed than his tone will ever be.
Ozzy didn't have a pot to piss in after leaving Sabbath. He lived in a "pay by the day" cheap hollywood transient Hotel.
The fanbase was for Sabbath which after Oz was fired was being driven by Dio and doing fine.
Ozzy didn't enjoy any success until he hired Rhoads.
You have no idea what youre talking about.
And people went to see Blizzard & DOAMM songs not the Sabbath stuff.
Everyone knows Ozzy was f*cked after Sabbath. Doesn't change the fact he was still a household name, for better or worse. You mean to tell me ANY band Randy played for would have enjoyed the same success he saw with Ozzy? And don't give me that "we'll never know" crap.
Case in point...
Hell, am I not correct that their original releases with Rhoads weren't even release in the US? I am no QR aficionado so I am likely wrong...
Anyway, to be clear... I LOVE Randy's playing and he was a huge influence growing up. Not disparaging him at all as a talent nor discrediting his genius! I just think he had shit tone on the albums!

Oh for sure. And he basically in those early years pissed on most of the traction she was making for him. I can not imagine how hard it had to be to wrangle Ozzy in his heyday! One thing we can ALL thank Ozzy for is bringing Randy, Jake and Zakk to the masses.Chester Nimitz":doxi5j6k said:

Exactly! I was agreeing with your previous comment ofYou mean to tell me ANY band Randy played for would have enjoyed the same success he saw with Ozzy? And don't give me that "we'll never know" crap.
Fair enough. I would imagine Max Norman (or whoever the engineer/producer was) had a lot to do with the final album tones.SpiderWars":onnp2w33 said:The way I remember it, Quiet Riot got traction BECAUSE it was RR's previous band. Pretty much 100% of it. But that was a long time ago and I may have killed a brain cell or two.
I'll agree that his early, esp Blizzard, tone wasn't the greatest. But I put very little of the blame on Randy.

No treble boost {which randy never used btw} and no od or boost of any kind. I honestly cant stress enough how important these speakers were to Randys sound, hate it or not. Anyways, would be fun to see if anyone can guess the amp. No Axefx, Kemper or other modeler. Guitar was plugged straight in. Randys lead tone was a huge inspiration to me when I first heard it.From then every lead I did had to be triple tracked..! Funny thing is Dave Linsk who is now in Overkill was such a giant Randy nut. He tracked down these speakers from all over everywhere before you could just scour the net for them. I bought 2 cabs from him when we were in our early 20's and still have a quad of them a million years later. Anyways heres the clip.

Heres a couple Randy Rhoads solos!!
My all time favorite guitar player!!
Yea... I mean that was straight into the amp.. no pedals whatsoever. One of the biggest factors of getting his tone was his speakers and its almost always overlooked! The amp I used here has built in chorus, reverb,a clean and a gain channel. If I told you what it was you would laugh! I have forgotten so much of my Randy stuff over the years but the clip wasnt to demonstrate the playing so dont judge! Sometimes people overthink shit if they read it on the net and then it turns into so much more than it actually is. But I guess if you read it on the net its gotta be true...Kapo_Polenton":1p6acccp said:phil b":1p6acccp said:Heres some fun.... You aren't kidding, that's it right there. I suppose any gritty pushed amp and disto pedal in front with those speakers will get ballpark. I often forget the impact a speaker has and have often heard about a speaker over an amp, pickups, and pedals making the biggest difference.

With Rudy and Tommy A they kicked ass !! I was watching some early Ozzy videos with Randy,Tommy and Rudy and its awesome!! I saw them on the BOO and DOAM tour in Dallas Texas and it just rocked! Absolutely my favorite! Now I must plug up and try some Randy licks !ElectricVoodoo":1f9owmqq said:JerEvil":1f9owmqq said:Randy was not with them when they finally "broke" nor would he be credited for their mainstream success which happened with Cavazo, unless you meant by the post they did not enjoy the Ozzy level success with HIM in the band. Yes you are correct, QR I & II were released in Japan.
I've had these albums long enough like everyone else has all these years and agree..tthe songs were subpar to say the least.
Which also backs up your statement about it being the songs.
I honestly believe that meeting RR saved his career. Like Charvel Dan said..he was living a loser lifestyle and would've probably been found dead sooner or later at that rate.
Me saying that the songs were written by RR was just an add on to his brilliance on music in general...meaning that he played an important role. Early QR didn't have Lee, Bob, and Don writing with Randy. Simply put..The BOO band were magical as was the second coming with Rudy and Tommy.
