I love ratt! Fucking warren was and is that band.. the song “your in love” always kicks fucking ass. I love playing it…. Most folks look and say WTF. ? Is that a song? About 5-6 metal heads always come and say……FUCKing ratt is awwwwesome! Just like that as I live in the south and when people drink, the words get longer.
Crosby gets vastly overlooked on the first several albums. Before his drug intake got out of control he really was the foundation for the band, even Warren admits that. And I liked their interplay as co-guitarists as well. IMO once Crosby started floundering they were really never the same.

Yeah. Crosby I think always felt slighted by the younger guy who took his spot ..

But it was Crosby who brought him in, they grew up together in San Diego. Warren has said they meshed great together. I think drugs is what did Crosby in, I think as he descended more into that and his input became less and less, that had a bigger affect. But hey that's just supposition on my part and hearing interviews and stuff.

Actually, Jake E Lee brought them both on.
Robin joined when Jake E Lee was lead.
Warren and Jake were roommates and close friends in San Diego and Jake brought Warren in when he left for Ozzy I believe.

Jake talks about the whole thing on Tone Talk.

Yeah, Ratt was the most important to me at the time than the other LA bands. On the first two albums they had way better songs than anyone else (Crüe, Dokken etc). The song writing fell off the rails after Body Talk which is their last real good song for me. Just hard driving melodic metal with that early 80’s hunger.
The Morning After is still my favourite for some reason, just takes me back in time.

Lack of communication for me, drop d goodness

Demartini is also unique in that he is mind blowing with RATT but often misses the mark when he plays or slots in with any other band. He's still in my top 5 though! There was an interesting clip I heard recently where Dio had asked him to fill in for the gig and he felt he was killing it on a lot of the older Sabbath material but when it came to playing Dio's solo stuff, it just wasn't jiving. He couldn't find it. As such they parted ways.

I also think it is interesting that Warren outside of Lynch, is the only other guy that really uses that slide legato vibrato technique. Def. stole that one from Lynch but used it brilliantly. These guys sort of borrowed from each other there is no question. Jake with those monster stretches. Such a good era for lead playing.

Yes I know. I used to have all the demo's, recordings (metal massacre comps and other comp album stuff) from that era with Ratt, Rough Cutt, Le Mans. Great stuff. Now you can find all that stuff on youtube. I liked Jake but didn't really care for much of his stuff from all this recordings etc... before he broke with Ozzy.

Still think Amir Derakh is one of the more underrated players from that era.

Greg Howe is always the guy that comes to mind for me when I think slide vibrato

i was gonna say everyone rushes to praise warren and rightfully so but Crosby is always overlooked

So you didn’t listen to them before but recognized his voice from a distance away while playing tennis? Or did I read that wrong lol

so what year did this happen?? given Ratt haven't been Ratt for a long time now i'm confused by the "a few days ago" bit .. I assume it was Pearcys solo band?

I did not know that. The interview I saw where Crosby looked like a moose and describing how everyone wanted warren to do shit and robin became a backup and lost his “kingdom”. I forgot the jake e lee thing.

They were called Stephen Pearcy and the Voices of RATT. July 15th Pickerington Festival, Pickerington, Ohio.

Yeah I can't see him doing anything with anyone else and definitely not DIO or Sabbath. He is too bluesy and slinky with his playing to do that type of stuff IMO.

I still love RATT. Warren had a unique style and syncopated style in his lead playing. He also had a MASSIVE tone once they made some money. "No Surprise", the intro for which isn't double-tracked, is as raw and perfect a JMP Marshall sound as you get. I even liked much of the Soldano record, which had a different but still great tone. Pearcy held them back, even though he had the occasional interesting melody choice.
