Yes.

kewl,

When?

I would actually have more interest in single channel modules. To me, I would think it would be harder to balance a dual channel module's volume, with different gain settings. I am very picky about my output levels on multi channel amps to be where I want them, as well as the eq being set just right for a particuliar channell. I would be concerened I would have small gripes with multi - channel mods sharing the same eq / and or volume.

I thought that to but I love the way the eggies work with the shared Eq.

I thought the same thing also, but really the guys at Egnater have done such a good job of setting the modules in the right area for the best tone, that it really doesn't bother me at all. I came from using a Voodoo Amps Modified JMP-1 where I could have each patch a different EQ. Honestly, the Eggies are super easy to set together w/ regards to volumes. The only one that's a bit of a pain in the arse is the COD as its just a louder module than the rest. I have the M4 w/ 3/4 of them in the 2-channel area, and I wouldn't want anything else. Its nice to be able to go from crunch to saturated distortion with a quick stomp of the foot. Like the T/D, they sound different from channel A to B, but they both sound great because the shared eq is set dead on where it needs to be. Shared EQ is no big deal at all if you have a well designed amp! Since the A and B channels of the modules aren't tonally the different each module, having shared EQ is really not that big of a deal. Having separate Gain and Volume for each module is the biggest thing you need honestly, and that's already there!

yeah

but I did get to try out a friends Mod 50, and using the T/D, and SL2 mods, I wasn't totally satisfied with how A/B sounded when switching back and forth, meaning I would set the eq slightly different if I had control over each channel. They worked decently together, but if I could of tweaked them individually more, I would have. Specially at different volumes on the overall amp, certain frequencies come out when pushed and what not, Different drive settings would also effect how I eq my channels. That I guess is the appeal to having single mods, and more of them, rather then 2 mods sharing similair settings.

But thats just me, so its good that single mods are coming out again. Will there be a cheaper M4 that will only work with single mods??

If you want a cheaper M4, then get either a RM4 from Randall, or get an older M4. I highly doubt (pretty much a 0% chance) that they'll go back to a single-channel M4. They are selling them for the Randall RM4 owners who want the Eggie sound. Since all M4's that are dual channel can accept Single Channel modules, there is really no reason for them to offer a single-channel M4 any way. The only difference between a single channel / dual channel M4 is just the midi anyways, and that's not gonna be much of a cost difference.

?? The Eggie M4 is about $250 cheaper than the Randall RM4. (Never understood why, but it is).

i would imagine its because its a higher margin item, where they feel they can get that kind of cash out of it. where as the modules probably don't have as much margin. lastly, the rm4 has an efx loop in the preamp also, which the new egnaters don't.

ahh so the M4 is cheaper eh? kewl, didn't know that. So the M4 is about 400 bucks, and shipped with a minimal of 1 module would be around 750 or so? dont really need an efx loop now, but might come in handy.

Thats about what I paid. I use a Suhr MiniMix on the output of the M4 - it creates a parallel FX loop. Series FX loop is same as just plugging your FX in between the M4 and power amp.

You can only get a Dual Channel M4 at the $400 price if you're already an Eggie customer...I guess there's more margin in the modules and if they sold unloaded M4s...Randall would be cannibalizing some of the module sales...

The Randall does provide you with FX loop though....Egnater removed that because it interfered with the tone was the reasoning given.

Once you go dual you never go back tho' is what I say...EG3/4 is worth the price of admission on it's own ;)

M4 + one module = $800 or thereabouts

yeah

its the wait with egnater that sucks, and before anyone says, its worth it, well, sure, but 1/4 of a year is a really long time, lots can happen in that timeframe, specially if you are a freelancer like myself. when I have the money, I need to spend it now, and need the gear now you know. That really is the only reason I would go with the R4 over the M4, unless i found a used one.

yeah, I am planning on running guitar to rack to efx, back in stereo to power amp, ahhh stereo rig. I just plugged in the axe fx in stereo the other day, efx sound just so much nicer and cleaner in stereo rather then jamming a mono fx into multiple speakers. Sounds great, at least in front of z old speakers.

Yeah, I bought my M4 loaded with 4 modules, so maybe that's why I got the $400 price off the bat.

Audioholic - I guess you could always buy an RM4 to use now, but go ahead and order an M4, then sell the RM4 when the M4 comes in. Having the ability to run dual modules really is an awesome thing.

Audioholic, just get the dual channel modules and... are you ready for this?... only use one channel if you're so concerned with the EQ. <GASP!> Your mind. It is blown. I know. The beauty of this idea is that you can then have another channel at your disposal once you have grown out of this "limiting myself to only one channel is the best idea" phase. You're welcome.

Yes, EQ is shared, but each channel of the dual mods have their own gain and master vol.

I have no issues with dual channel modules having the same EQ. The gain and master controls work fine for establishing a balance. Having 2 dual channels in my MOD 50 gives me basically 4 channels (clean, crunch, rhythm, lead). I can't imagine any reason Id rather have 2 channels over 4.

+1 there man. I totally agree 100% with you :).
