OK, I'm in the market for a Rebel 30 and can't decide on a head or combo...So those of you lucky enough to have a head OR combo--please post the pros/cons.

Thanks!

Head hands down for me! It's sick thru a big cabinet! The combos cool but I have always never bonded with them!

Thanks Jeff,
I'm leaning that way already--just picked up a TM 212 cab...

I love the "convenience" of the combo, but this cab sounds great and I'm sure the R30 head would sound awesome through it!

Same here. I love having a head. I agree with Jeff. I don't think I've ever owned a combo very long. I bought the Rebel 30 combo but returned it to GC as soon as the head came out. For one thing if you're are using it as a back up like I am, it's a lot easier to travel with load in & out and it swaps out quicker on stage with less down time. Pull other head down, set new head up, same cab, already miced, turn on, dial in, go.

And it does sound huge through my oversized Mojo 2X12.

Dude, if you already have the TM212, then you already know your answer! Rock on.

Alright, alright...thanks for all the replies.
I just ordered the Rebel 30 head!!!

I ordered the Rebel 30 head today from Moog Audio in Canada. I am busting to get it!

In the meantime any opinions on a Marshall 1936 2x12 cabinet paired up with this head?

I will probably be out numbered but in my opinion that is a fantastic cabinet. I used a 1936 2X12 for many years and I think it is one of the best all around speaker cabinets out there. The real question of course is ... with what speakers in it? Are you buying empty, used? I would recommend that and then put your favorite style cones in there. Then rock out!!!

Hey, got my Rebel 30 Head today and after some dialing in got some nice sounds with the Marshall 1936 cab - its a 1993 model with stock Celestions in it, not sure but it could be the GT12's (?) in it.

This amp is a lot. With the EQ's, the "tight" and "bright" switches PLUS the tube mix, there are a variety of tones. If you have a certain sound you are looking for, it's there but you may have to do some fiddling with all the controls and learning how everything works together. Got some real nice cleans from warm lush tones to bright and sparkling clean!

The reverb is good, I have no complaints with it so far, does what I want it to do and a welcomed effect missing in my Orange Tiny Terror, Epiphone Valve Jr and Blackheart Little Giant.

I am very surprised (pleasantly, I might add!) how varied the tone is with the tube mix. You can't really appreciate it in the various YouTube videos out there - its a huge tonal difference IMHO. It's my favorite feature so far on this amp!

My overall opinion? I am going to withhold for now as I gotta get back down into the man cave and play with it some more. I am convinced "the sound" is in this amp going by the tonal spectrum I witnessed in my first test drive today.I played it so far with a Tele and a Les Paul. (I never played one b4 as there are no dealers here in Newfoundland - I ordered one out of Moog Audio based on the feedback I read on these amps!) Bear in mind that most of the amps I use (aside from my Traynor YCS 100 Custom) have very few buttons - with this amp's set up I am in totally new territory!

I'll check back in after I play with it this weekend - have a jam on Sunday and will take it with me to test it with the band!

Ok just wanted to pipe back in after an hour with my Les Paul Standard plugged into this amp and all I can say is wow! After getting used to the controls you can really dial in the sounds you are looking for. The gain channel is more aggressive channel than most amps and at low volume settings I can get a great but not perfect classic rock crunch yet - but I am confident i will find it. Maybe needs to be pushed a little louder than bedroom levels to obtain it.

The cleans are freaking wicked. I love dialing in different voicings - they all sound awesome. This is where this amp really excels. If the gain channel is fantastic then this channel is super-fantastic. It's warm and mellow when you want it to be, and bright and in-your face when you want it to be!

Another thing I noticed is the amp is super quiet. No hum or buzz at all. With my LP no need for a noise suppressor at all.

Conclusion? Very versatile amp all around, a top pick in my book for value. This is the amp to beat in this price range.

Besides the tubes, what are the tonal differences between the Renegade and the Rebel 30? I am looking for either on or the other right now. I remember reading something that Jeff had posted a while ago but I don't remember what it was.

Sorry i cannot answer any questions on any other Egnater amp but the Rebel 30 Head lol! I have never heard any other Egnater product other than the one I shipped in. (No one carries them in Newfoundland!)

anyone else want to pick this up?

The word I got was that the 30 is a little darker and emphasizes more mids and the Renegade a little brighter, though they both can cover the other's territory. I went with the 30 simply because the Renegade head was overwhelming to me in size after being used to the Rebel 20 I have. For me, smaller and lighter is better when you have to lug stuff around.

Hmmm. I tend to prefer darker tones but I have been lusting after a Renegade. What modules are the Rebel 30's channels close to?

Yeah the more I own this Rebel 30 head the more I love it! I am using it this weekend in a show so that should be interesting.

People should not confuse the size and weight of this amp with how loud it is - this thing is LOUD. I also have a Traynor Custom Special 100w with a 4x12 cabinet, great sounding and lots of balls, but it's a too much to lift on my own, I always have to get someone to help me get it to the truck. The Egnater, with the 212 cabinet is much easier to cart around, and will be going with me from now on.

I used the Egnater Rebel 30 at a gig this weekend. It outperformed my expectations! The cleans were punchy and bright and the gain channel was easily dialed in for the sound variety I needed for the show. I ran in through a Marshall 1936 Cabinet and mic'd it with a Shure SM57. I never had the amp's volume much past 9 o'clock, so there was lots of room if I needed it!

I received compliments from the bass player and drummer on my "much" improved sound. I have to agree that it dials in tones very nicely...plus the fact that it didn't kill my back lugging it to and from was a bonus.

Bottom line is this was the best $800 I have spent in a long, long time!

I hope to hear this many more times! Band members making these statements! I mean it's cool to have other dudes telling you from the crowd that your tone is great but coming from the band is icing on the cake!
