Joeytpg,

I am sorry for the delay in response.....I have been out of pocket.
Regarding the cleans of the R30 vrs Renegade....that is a tough question because both deliver great IMO. However, just as a reference, I own a R30 head with Egnater 112 cab and the Renegade 212 Combo.

Personally, the "strat" cleans that I hear through my R30 head/112 cab are phenomenal! The variety of excellent "strat" cleans that I can achieve from my Renegade 212 combo are excellent as well!!

Honestly, it is very difficult for me to recommend one over the other for cleans......both are great! I will say that I prefer my Renegade overall for its versality (Ch2 high gain sounds, solo boost, etc.) however, there are some nice high gain sounds offered in Ch2 of the R30 as well. For a fantastic sounding that is very easy to transport......the R30 head/112 Eggy Cab gets my vote!! Both are great!!

I hope this helps....

Ok so given the clean tones are excellent on both, then which one of the two has the best "blues" tones? something like SRV, Hendrix, Clapton kind of OD tones? I don't play with much gain honestly......the most gain I use is Bonamassaish kind of gain, not more......... which one of the two sounds more open and articulate at low gain/medium gain?

Joeytpg,

While both amps (R30 and Renegade) are capable of very nice low gain bluesy sounds in Ch2, based on what you are describing....you might prefer the R30? You need to try the R30 to decide for yourself.

I will say that I also like the type of "Bluesy" sounds that you are describing. Both of these amps can get you their very nicely....so it is really up to you deciding which you may prefer.

Once again, overall I prefer my Renegade for greater flexibility and that it uses 6L6s & EL34s. IMO, the Renegade can easily cover a wider variety of excellent tones, and is usually my choice for those reasons when playing live. However, I also really like the great sounds offered from my R30 head / 112 cab, and the fact that it is a very compact, light weight, easily transportable "grab and go" rig that sounds very good!

I also tried the R30 112 combo prior to purchasing my R30 Head / 112 cab, and definitely prefered the sound of the head/cab in this case FWIW.

I think Rebel is more vintage sounding, Renegade more modern.

In general, I agree with Len's assessment.....especially when comparing Ch2 of the R30 vrs Renegade. However, both amps can be set for very nice vintage sounds in both channels IMO. The Renegade definitely offers more gain in Ch2, but you don't have to set it high to achieve great tones!! ;)

Renegade can get some great vintage tones. I love picking up my 335, putting the gain on channel 1 to about 3 o'clock, rolling it all the way over to the EL84 side, crankin' the volume a bit, and lettin' 'er rip! 18 watts gives it a nice slightly compressed sustain.

WTF - Sorry Again, I have re-done the chart, it should read......
V1-V2-V3 = JJ ECC83S's and V4 = JJ ECC81's.

I've owned the Renegade, Tweaker 15, and the Rebel 30. Also had a tourmaster, but that sucker was too heavy and had to many tubes- they need to ditch than too versatile transformer and put a 100 watt transformer with a half power switch. Anyway- I love the Rebel 30 out of all of the first 3 I mentioned. Great verstale clean and dirty channels, I think it is better suited for the srv and bluesy tones over the renegade. It also has more gain on tap and better bass imho. I'm running a head with a avatar 2/12 with a v30 and g12h30.
