Which amps impressed you most? Did you get to play his McNaught? I had the pleasure of playing a MCNaught once. What an incredible guitar!!
Yes they are!!!!

Carl, glad to hear you're working with Tony. According to someone that knows him, Tony supposedly has a couple cabs loaded with Scumbacks. Is that correct? Just curious, as this info is about 3 years old now.

Yes, that is correct! He has a Marshall 4x12 loaded with Scumbacks. It is the cab in the photo with the two Marshall heads on it. Unfortunately I didn't know that when I was there ... I never got to hear that cab. Tony told me about it afterward ... Too much gear and not enough time. He did have great things to say about the speakers, and we will mic it up and test it next time. Can't wait to hear it!

he still using splawn for most of his tone ?

His main amps live are the Splawn Nitro and the Diezel Herbert. I didn't get to play Tony's Nitro, as it was packed away on the tour bus. But I did get to play a splawn loaded with KT88's, and it sounded awesome. Very cool amp. The amp in the pic is the Spawn Quick Rod ... also very cool. Seemed to have a more vintage vibe to it versus the Nitro from what I remember.

thanks for sharing.

were you recording then?

Yes ... we were testing a bunch of gear. Then we recorded a couple of solos for my upcoming albums. We ended up using the McNaught through the Fortin Bones for Tony's tracks. The tone was awesome!

Didn't he start of with QRs and moved on to Nitros?

He has both ... Nitro is his main live amp with the Herbert.

All his amps sound great. Vintage 68 Marshalls, Splawn Quick Rod, Divided by 13 ... all great stuff. He does have a great ear for tone.

Yes, I did play his McNaught! And was blown away! Awesome guitar ... very well crafted. Great feel and tone. His has the Rio Grande pickups in it.

Glad that worked out for you Carl, I was wondering if that ever happened.

Nice collection of amps, of course I was really digging the marshalls :) So I am going to take it he played the bones, what did he think?

Congrats again Carl!

He loved the Bones amp. It sounded great with his McNaught. He is considering getting a Fortin to use in combo with the Nitro. I did tell him about the Natas as well ... and he would like to hear it.

I am supposed to engineer and produce Tony's next record. We are slated for tracking later this year ... I plan on having a Meathead and Natas available for Tony top track to during that time. Spoke to Mike Fortin about it ... also, we may try various combinations of amps ... I am thinking I can talk him into combining his Nitro with either the Bones or Natas! He is up for testing it when he comes down to Magic Elf Studios ... we'll see!

Thank you Carl! Does he check out rig talk? How did he know about Fortin?

No he is not on RigTalk ... although he is a major gear head. We can talk for hours about all the gear ... he found out about the Fortin through my Guitar World videos and my instructional DVD. He had contacted me, and had some very nice things to say about my playing and tone! Which was nice ... he was asking about my amps and how I record ... so I told him about the Fortin. He asked me to bring it up to his place to test ... he was very impressed! As he knew he would be. I am hoping he plays one of Fortins amps live in 2011.

I can't tell you what he has in it. He got those on the sly through someone else, or perhaps his guitar tech, so I've got no idea what he has in it, just that he has Scumbacks.

So ask him next time you're there so I know, would you please? Thanks.

Awesome. How cool is that? Congrats Bro. I have one of his old Splawn cabs.
