Rectifier MW - closest to rev F or G?

Have a chance to pick up a DR 2010 MW. I had a triple some time ago and didn’t like it too much but seeing YouTube videos I think it might have been the tubes that were the cause of this. At that time I had two F’s I really liked so I sold the triple MW.

Maybe I should give it another go. Is it a bit tighter like the F or looser like the G?

Also, have the MW’s ever had changes? Or has it remained the same thru all its years?

You have a 1978 Yamaha sg-1500? How is that guitar? I've always wanted one of those old Yamaha SG's.

Yeah, it’s great!

Closer to a Rev F. If you are set on a Dual Rectifier and price conscious, I'd go with the MW.

They're more flexible and a better bang for the buck than the 2 channel options.

I had a multiwatt, and loved it. Was even better when I put KT77's in it that were hand-picked to get the bias up to about 32mA. Stock, it was running at 19mA with the 6L6's.

Unfortunately, it was too damn loud for my situation at the time. And the volume taper was zero to holy shit, (like most Mesas). But, when you did get it up there, it was definitely a killer amp. Boosted, it was downright nasty. I've not owned an early Dual Rectifier, just the Single 50 watt, (that I loved, but hated the loop), and a couple Mini Rectifiers. That MW was definitely the best. It was the first year "Reborn", as they called it. Sounded killer through Greenbacks too.

@napalmdeath what KT77's did you use? I ordered a quad of JJ's from EuroTubes for my Rev. F. last week.

I found the JJ 6L6's I had in it were too scoopeed and loose on the bottom end. Hoping this makes the amp more responsive.

Yep, JJ's. Eurotubes picked out a pretty hot pair, upper 40's maybe?

The E34L's sound great too.

You can play with the Tube/Diode/Bold/Spongy options to bring the bias up/down. I usually like silicon/Bold but that will bring the hottest bias to the tubes. I have a quad of GT EL34LS that are @32ma with Tube/Spongy and 39 at diode/bold.

Yeah, absolutely. But 6L6's measuring 19mA weren't cutting it for me. I ran it diode/bold, and I think the hottest it got was 36mA with the KT77's. Right about where it should be, (for me, anyway). Don't really want power tube break-up with that much preamp gain.

When I ordered my JJ KT77’s, the guys at EuroTubes recommended their KT88/KT66 custom quad, with GZ34’s and a 4A fuse to run them.

They say a stock DR will handle it with no problems, but I can’t get onboard making a new quad work by upping the stock fuse value from 3A to 4A.

Yeah, I think I'd trust Mesa more for that type of advice. I'd email or even call Mike B to make sure. When you have to up the fuse value that doesn't sound like good advice at all.

To add to what's been said (yes it's more F like), in the MWs, the Duals have a better upper mid presence & the Triples are more scooped. I of course (before I owned them all) thought MoaR Sco0p BeTtR, but then after using them in the band, I decided the Dual MW was the way to go. So, out of the myriad of Rectos I've owned, a Dual MW is the only one I have left. Peter I imagine you've seen my F vs MW & C vs MW vids.

This video (not mine) shows the Dual vs Triple tonal difference perfectly.

Thx! Yeah seem your videos :) it sound good. Have you heard if there’s been any changes to the multi-watt? It’s a 2010 model I’m looking at

There’s been no word of a new Dual or Triple Rectifier.

If they release one, I’d imagine it’d come with MIDI & built in cab clone.

I've never read anything talking about revisions in the MW series. So, at the least, guys haven't gone down the rabbit hole yet.

Yeah, I’d been beginning to wonder if my rev e was worth it, or if I should just roll a multi watt lol. My Mesa cab I run with it sounds killer with everything, early 93, the v30s in them just sound right and not ice picky.

In the bedroom / studio there is something special about the high gain tone on the first 5000 or so serial small logo 2 channel Rectos. In a band however, the MW is so much better overall that it's not even a question. Ultimately that's why I sold the others & kept the MW. I believe time is going to flesh them out as valuable & worth having in a collection.

@GJgo did you sell off your Rev C?
