The Roadster is THE best rectifier ever made in my opinion and that's all because of channel 2, but right next to it is the multiwatt reborn. I really like the little revisions they made. Honestly, I've evaluated all the hype about 90s rectifiers or whatever old revisions, blah, blah but I think it's just a con for guys with decades old Mesa Boogies to get way more money than they're worth. They all sound good. Funny thing is, you'll hear criticisms from the same guys about "icepick" highs, low end flub, and so on.

Personally, I think it's like those vintage Marshall purists who want to fight to the death about vintage plexis, except when they finally plug one into something other than the same crusty 1960s cab they inherited from their great uncle, then they meltdown as their brain schema struggles to reconstruct.

These days, they're so stinking expensive that you should just take the best deal on the best condition rectifier you can find and go enjoy because I tell you, you're not going to be kicking yourself for not getting xx revision and what not.

and to throw another option out there... this Hermansson bloke seems to be doing some great work with Rectos.

Anyone had any experience with his work with rectos?
One of the best amps I’ve ever played. Period. I don’t have weird fizz on mine (can’t speak for others). I’m not a recto guy and even have been offered a rev f in a trade within the last year. Just not my thing. The Hermansson recto for me is a top 5 amp ever. I have not played a rev C but have played Fs and own 2 Gs (and a IIC+ And Mark IV for reference).

I also have a JT modded triple recto and I think that’s a fantastic mod. It’s cheap. Quick turn around. More rock oriented.

The red channel on the Hermansson is worth the price alone. But I do think the other channels and modes on the JT are better than the Hermansson overall. More versatile. Much better rock sounds than metal. This is a very accurate representation of the JT mod:

It’s actually a super easy mod to do…the guys on Grailtone figured it out. Change the gain/presence pots to higher values, clip/bypass 1 LDR, and bypass a few more resistors and that’s most of it. Made a 2 channel triple sound much better.
Any chance you have a link to the post? I'm getting a stock Rev G in a couple days and would love to have my tech do the mod

100%,

My Rev G had way more fizz than before Hermansson did the mod on it. Also felt way stiffer. I might have to look at one of these JT mods to compliment it

Here's a rundown by JC Denton on the Boogie Board.

I did all except changing out resistor values...I just did the simple ones, bypassing/clipping an LDR and putting small jumpers in to bypass instead of removing the components. That way one can easily remove the jumpers to get back to stock. And I did change the Gain/presence pots as well.

Based on this and everything else I've read in this thread, I just made a deal for a minty Roadster. Picking it up tomorrow!

I've wanted another Rectifier for a long time, so I'm pretty excited!

How do you like it compared to his Marshall mods/rebuilds? I’ve got a 5 Gain Stage Marshall by him that’s killer, but his recto clips didn’t sound as good to me, although honestly I don’t really like the way any of his clips sound, but in person the 3 Herm Marshall’s I’ve tried (mine included) have all been great

Awesome! Thanks so much! I will probably do a before and after video once I have it done

Do you still have a KSR modded 2-channel? I suspect they do basically the same thing with their mods. (?)

Dunno ever played a rev C but would like to. Got my tremoverb combo for like $450 or less in ‘16 but think those are all rev G?

Yeah T-verbs were all rev G. Personally I wouldn't want to mod mine. It's the darker high-end and thunky lower-midrange that sets that version apart IMO.

Yeah I liked the tremoverb since first played one in 90s.

I heard that very early T-Verbs had the RevF circuit board, but I could be wrong about that

I’d grab any Recto used and send it to
JT Amplification and have him do his magic.
Y’all are missing out if you haven’t dug in..to one.

I do! however, I doubt it. Kyle's mods are pretty intricate and he has a particular sound, much like all of the other high end builders out there, and that's evident in his Recto mods. At some point down the road I'll do a massive Rectifier comparison since I'm stacking an ungodly amount of them at the moment. lol

For me, the Orange channel got a little more aggressive (prob due to the pot values increasing) but the biggest change was the Red got so much better...
That's good as the Orange is where I tend to live on the 2 channels, and was never a huge fan or the red. Maybe this will make both channels the cat's ass now
