Renegade 1x12 versus 2x12

A lot of this is one reason why I opted for the Tourmaster: 2 X 12, side handles, casters, front and rear mounted controls.

Still, probably the best sounding thing I ever heard was the Renegade head with the 2 X 12 Tourmaster cabinet! But I am a combo guy...

I hear you Len! I am also a combo guy, and usually gravitate toward 1x12 combos.

Regarding the Renegade.....the 1x12 combo is definitely a good sounding amp....it just didn't provide me with the "Wow" factor that I experienced while playing through the 2x12. This is especially true in channel 2 as I find channel 1 to be devine in both amps.

Additionally, I wish to express my appreciation for the great sounding direct out of the Renegade to the mixer. It definitely sounds WAY better than any other amp manufacturer attempting to provide this type of feature. Honestly, I was surprised how good it sounds going directly to the board.

However, I do have a question.......How does the direct out work with the Renegade.....and should I expect any difference in sound using the direct out from the 1x12 combo that I have been playing versus the NIB 2x12 that I should be receiving this week? My guess is that all Renegades have identical direct out circuitry regardless of which amp you own....including the head. Any thoughts?

My past experience with attempting to use direct outs/line outs from tube amps has been so bad that I always ended up mic'ing the amp/cab. However, I find the direct out feature of the Renegade to do a very nice job of maintaining the great tube amp sound from the amplifier!

On many sites the spec comparison is .....

Renagde 2x12:
# Dimensions: 25" (L) x 10" (W) x 19" (H)
# Weight: 75 lbs

Reengade 1x12
# Dimensions: 26" (L) x 11" (W) x 21" (H)
# Weight: 55 lbs

The 2x12 is smaller but heavier? This doesnt make sense to me?

Don't know what that's about. I really don't think that the 112 is bigger than the 212. But they are very comparably sized. The 112 certainly isn't half the size of the 212. There are only a few inches here and there that differ.

The weight probably is around 15-20 lbs different. The added speaker alone accounts for a lot of that. I'll leave it up to you as to whether this weight difference is significant.

Dieselmx......according to the manual the 2x12 is larger than the 1x12, but only marginally as hbucker mentioned. The 2x12 is 1-1/2" wider and 1-1/2" taller than the 1x12. The 2x12 is roughly 20 lbs heavier than the 1x12 combo, but with the excellent side handles and casters...it is manageable to load in my car without killing my back! LOL

On a side note.....I did receive my NIB 2x12 combo yesterday (to replace my previous NIB 1x12 combo). My new 2x12 combo sounds great and is working perfectly so I am a very happy camper.

The 2x12 does sound better to my ears and is worth the extra weight IMO.

Thanks to all posters that helped me arrive at my final decision!

Thanks guys ... may look into it. I like the top knobs on it as well. The black bar with the egnater logo is ver stylish too . yeah my main concern was the weight .. but usually side handles make up for it and make it easier to transport.

now on to my next big decision .. trade in the nova system and get all separate MXR pedals? hmmm.. decisions...

Thanks hbucker!
Your posts have been very helpful to me.
Much appreciated!

dieselmx.....best of luck in whatever you decide.

I will say that my NIB 112 also performed flawlessly and sounded good.....just not as good as the 212 IMO.....especially in channel 2.
