I play a Fender Bassman, so I was using the Blues Driver as more of a fat overdrive than the traditional SD-1 way of boosting. It just sounds fatter and warmer to me for that use. Now, I could see if you are looking for a boost for a JCM 800 or something, the SD-1 might be better because it's a "tighter" sound. How would you compare the SD-1 to the Blues Driver? I know the SD-1 is legendary for good reason.
I think the Blues Driver is probably as much as a " household name " as the SD-1 ... but not in the High Gain world
as far as how it's built ..... The BD-2 is a bit more complex circuit wise .... it utilizes JFETS .... which the SD-1 does not .... the clipping section is a bit different ... there's a few other things ..How would you compare the SD-1 to the Blues Driver? I maxed out my brain learning how to wire a basic 12v system on a motorcycle. I see all those squiggly lines on a schematic and my brain starts hurting. My kid on the other hand is gonna rewire my Viper for me. I don't get it.I wish I would have learned electronics when I was a young man. Now my old addled brain would burn itself out trying to understand.
