Now that the fees are much lower it's not worth it. When it was 10% it made more sense.

I'm trying to figure out how it is greed for a business to expect to be paid for a service they are providing...

but yes scottosan is correct it is automated scanning that is then referred to CS if something looks fishy. I worked designing web analytics applications for years and this is really common for fraud prevention.

Paypal robbed me and I don't want to give them a cent, that's why I didn't want to use paypal, not to save a few dollars in fees. I quit using paypal a while ago.

Well, I do understand. If we could only do that with kids. About as close as I can get is about once a month I walk past my oldest son and give him a slap, then point at him and say “I know what you did”.
It seems to work.

Forget the fees. Having communication in the system only is a control put in place to better document disputes and provide tracking/evidence in those cases. They are trying to protect users and themselves here. Don't like it, don't use it. For my money there is no better platform to sell reach a large audience and sell gear.

If you don't want a mod or software reading all your shit, just do business here... :D

Ebay has the same sort of scanning software in place.

I think it's ridiculous. Threatening sellers that are customers of their site. Bottom line, if I want to sell an item "outside of their site" ... I'm going to do so ... with or without their permission. It's my stuff ... not theirs. Stupid business tactic is stupid.

Reverb is a classles period. They are in it for the money and nothing else. They act they offer some security. They don't. They may mediate disagreement but at the end of the day they turn it over to paypal or whom ever. I stand by this decision based on a purchase made from a seller accepting paypal and having no paypal account. So reverb uses there paypal account on his behalf to get there miserable profit. Listing was bogus and reverb failed to respond to the dispute. Paypal refunds my money and i kept the gear. So u put your paypal account up for someone you dont know and gear you have not even seen and may be fraudulent? Pretty shity and i am supposed to feel safe selling thru this outfit? They weigh the odds and figure most people are legit and obviously they can take some losses revenue wise. But yet they flag messages? Pretty obvious they dont give a shit about anything besides there cut. I realize they are doing it for money and profit but if your making it known your reliabilty is nothing but pathethic marketing, its another ebay plain and simple. Pathetic defines there management. Simple

My brain hurts after reading this. I don't think eBay or Reverb have software that can decipher this.

I was talking to a guy on Reverb about buying a guitar. He gave me his phone number to contact him. I didn't want to use paypal and the seller was cool with that. Anyhow, I got an email from Reverb saying they read our PM's to one another and they don't want us talking outside of reverb, and most definitely not making a deal outside Reverb. I was pretty shocked they go reading messages from person to person when something has not been reported, I mean like someone complaining about someone else. The seller was happy to do the deal outside Reverb because he would not have lost the paypal fees. I don't like the idea that they randomly read personal messages to one another. I was very surprised to get a warning like that.
So you don't "like the idea that they randomly read personal messages to one another," while you and the seller are both "happy to do the deal outside Reverb" to avoid fees.  How dare they expect to be compensated for the service that they're providing! GTFO :jerkit:

Wait, did someone just say a company was in business to make money? Like it was a negative.
Geez, we’re in trouble.

So its ok with you to sale and accept money thru paypal with no paypal.acccount?
Interesting y

You can accept Direct Checkout/Affirm only which prevents buyers from using paypal, they have to use their credit card or check card directly. Or you can use the Direct Checkout which also allows Paypal in the method described but you still dont get the payment from Paypal, they only submit it through Paypal. In any case, unless you choose "paypal only" you are insulated from paypal which is a good thing...

Yeah I use direct check and Affirm. no issues here.

you are agreeing to use their service. they found you a buyer and now you want to scam them out of the money you agreed to pay them.

of course they have a right to prevent people from robbing them.

I made a purchase. Seller didnt have paypal but paymemt was accepted? Fraudulent , no i didnt use direct checkout.

If the seller accepts the "universal" direct checkout method, you can send payment via paypal and they receive payment from reverb via direct checkout. Reverb processes it through their own corporate paypal. This is the most flexible form of payment acceptance as buyers get the option to use whatever method of payment they like (aside from direct cash transfer) and the seller receives payment from reverb which insulates them from paypal. No issues over here using this method.

this is correct. Frankly, I'm surprised it took this long for them to get on board with this. Users will always find a way to circumvent the system, but they are entitled to their cut since you agreed to it when you registered.

Your privacy is also subject to that agreement. You can always go back to the old way of selling via classifieds of CL.
