reverb transformer specs for Tourmaster

mid 200's on the vdc...IIRC, it's 256 to be exact
the pin voltage varies...130-160, usually around 130 with just the amp on/standby not in play.

Sounds like a new reverb transformer is all that you need. This is where you came in.....

that's actually where nate got me to last year around this time after helping me troubleshoot it over the phone, just not as in depth as you did. he had me check continuity.

anyways, thanks for the help.

1 question though, why would it work intermittently like it did?

It does seem odd that it seemed to work for you after your redid the wire connections, and then the trans failed. But, quite possibly it was the loose connections that caused the trans problem, and maybe it was damaged before you found the bad connection. JAG, who knows? I'm glad that you know it's the trans though, and I learned a few things along the way. :)

ok

egnater guys, any help here would be appreciated greatly!!!!!

have i properly troubleshooted it down to a bad reverb tranny?

if so, where can i get one if not from the factory?

Ha, glad I read your post..Sounds exactly like my issue.
I feel better sending mine in for warranty replacement. Sent 2/19 still aint got it though 3/24...good luck.
:aww:

as per bruce, i emailed alex on wednesday, got a response that they were out of the reverb trannies, but he could SELL me one (clearly, THESE are an issue..SELL??)...
so i emailed back and asked what would be a direct drop in replacement, and didnt get a response.

we shall see.

Bump

Any progress?

I just wonder how they can sell something that they are out of?

But, was also wondering why the primary leads on the reverb trans are green and black. All of the replacement that I have been looking at have the blue and red primary. (Bruce listed Mojo, Magic, etc.)

Any chance that this trans was connected backwards, or are there special made trans for Egnater? I am sure that I haven't seen every trans made, but so far, all have the red and blue primary wires.

as per alex:

"I did get your previous email and I've been trying to track down the information concerning a replacement. Unfortunately there isn't an after market equivalent to the reverb transformer that we use in the Tourmaster, its a proprietary design. We do have a bunch of them on order as we speak so I can sell you one as soon as I get them. Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with and I'll be more than happy to do so."

That figures. :(

Interesting info on the Mercury Magnetics site:

"We're looking for transformers from Egnater amps so we can offer upgrade versions. Your original transformers may be working (or not working) when you send them in. Be the first... get the sweet deal. If you'd like to upgrade the tone of your amp, all you have to do first is contact Paul Patronete or Patrick Selfridge."

On the site, the names mentioned are links for email contact.

I take it that you can send in your faulty trans and get some consideration/deal on a new one if they decide to make them (or maybe they could even suggest a replacement?).

yeah, so the new one they sent, quit working too...just this past weekend.

bummer. im thinking about trying to find something equivalent...or, if anyone has any ideas?

hey lou, yeah, here's some progresss....

the new one quit working too!!!! not even 5 months in, couldn't have put 100 hours on it. im goin to open my amp tonight and check the primary and voltage.

what could be causing this, aside from, faulty Reverb transformers from the supplier.

is there ANY way i could figure out if a different one would work?
this is getting annoying!

if you read up above, i posted about 2 years ago that i replaced the led inside the footswitch with a brighter, UV led. is there ANY way this could be causing the issue (even though i think it's a dumb question on my part...)??
thanks again, ahead of time.

Agree, not the LED.

Hard to figure without a schematic. Really, the reverb circuit is a simple DC supply, controlled by a tube, through the transformer primary. Since the primary is opening (at least the one before), some things to check would be the DC supply, such as a bad filter cap, or intermittent connection in the circuit somewhere. If the reverb sounds good, and not intermittent, that would seem to rule out a bad connection. Possibly a bad tube, but that seems unlikely. It also seems that it's not a problem on the circuit fed by secondary side of the transformer, such as the tank, but that's also possible. Really, a thorough inspection by a professional might uncover a problem, or verify the circuit.

You know my feeling about it. ;)

Bruce,

If you could help me here, i measured the DC voltage at pins 1/2/3/6/7/8

pin 6 gave a reading of 137.

all other pins were 0

same thing this time.

same when i check everything else as last time when you had me troubleshoot it.

And, the continuity on the primary of the tranny? Remember? No voltage on pin 1 means open primary.

no voltage. no continuity.

i already switched out to a brand new reverb pan when the first one started acting up.

switched tubes out.

so, now i have to figure out where the dc supply filter cap is.
