Well as you guys know, Art got Kurt to part with one of his CCVs and I finally got a chance to play it tonight. All I can say is Holy Crap! The hype is there for a reason, because it is one of the best if not the best sounding amps I've heard to date. We played it against my Aldrich, which I love and it gave a great showing, but the CCV is so smooth, crisp and clear. Tons of gain and I usually like the highest gain setting but with this it sounded perfect in the tame stock 800 mode if that's what it is called. So many tonal possibilities with all of the toggles. We tried it through an EVHIII cab, a V30/G12 X pattern and a Greenback Marshall AX cab and it seemed to like the Greenbacks the best. We tried it with EMGs and a JB pickup and both sounded great. In a post a while back I said, in jest, that the CCV never sounded as good on the clips as the modded Marshalls did. I take it all back!!! Anyone waiting for one of these will not be dissapointed. He was going to leave it here for a few days for me to tinker but I'd probably never answer my door when he came back for it!

Awesome man...Are there are any amps that come to mind to compare its tone, for comparison sake? You said one of the sounds you can get, roughly speaking, is JCM 800 tones on the 1st channel? What about the 2nd channel? ....It seems like even though it's smooth, it can be dialed in for a good amount teeth, as well, right?...I can't wait to own of these...It seems like the amp has a real fluid feel/interaction between the player and the equipment...It must be a blast to let loose and rip some shit up on!...

Well stock JCM 800 might have not been the proper description. I'm talking hot rodded JCM 800 but as you said fluid and smooth. The Jose modded Marshall that Cap had before the CCV maxed out at the level I am referring to. The CCV takes it even further into a more aggresive tone that compares to the Aldrich in its hairy aggresion but still very smooth and articulate. I think it had its sweet spot well before you max out the gain. I could see why everyone that reviews this amp says they need more time with it because there are so many possibilities and combinations for tone.
As far as comparing its tone, think of the best hot rodded Marshall you ever heard. This is a step up from that. We have been through Custom Audio OD100, SLO 100, Caswell 39 Mod Marshall, Splawn Quick Rod and Nitro, Cameron Aldrich and Jose, DSL, Voodoo Modded DSL, JCM 900, JCM 900 SLX, Cornford and I probably missed a few and this IMO is by far the best. By the way most of that was on Caps dime. :-)

Tonmaz your a mad man, you forgot the einstein, evh 5153, splawn modded plexi, egnater seminar head. The sad part of the whole story is the amps never go farther than tomaz's basement for review.

Ok I said I might have missed a few. I'm glad you reminded me, I liked that Einstein. Everything else on the list was poopoo. I never heard the Egnater so it gets a poopoo pass.

The cornford mk2 kick ass also.

I though that amp was too sterile. No doubt it had pristine clarity but almost too much.

I used to own an SLO and played it through my Bogner 4x12 w/ the G12H30/V30 x-pattern and it sounded very, very nice. I would have kept it, if I wasn't trying to fund a CCV purchase.

No guys the poo poo comment was aimed at that second list Art threw out, Splawn Modded Plexi, EVHIII, etc. The SLO was respectable although I didn't appreciate it as much as the Cameron Marshall stuff. The day we compared the SLO we also had the Jose JMP, JMP Aldrich and I think even and EVHIII. I just like the Marshall stuff but the other guys raved about the SLO. SPeakers might have had something to do with it as you say. You definately have me intrigued about that speaker, we have X patterned the G1275 and V30 but not the one you mention.

What are the characteristics of the H30 Vs the V30 and G1275?

Ned,what they are forgetting to say is that they tested it at just above speaking volume because tonmazz can't get out of the house until his three kids go to bed. He never heard it at band playing volume and yes there is a nice grind to this head!!!

H30 and G1275 do not have the high mid spike of the v30...the H30 and g1275 have more highs and lows by comparison (more scooped)...I think the g1275 has the biggest bass response of all 3. The H30 has nice warm overtones.
