I’m thinking of having them refinish my Strat. I did a relic job on it last year… it looked cool at first, but now I can’t stand it. Live and learn I guess. I’m thinking of having them do a sparkle finish. I know that they were/are a big name in the industry doing work for a ton of people.

But I wanted to get some firsthand opinions of them.

I’d love to hear any stories… good or bad. Thanks!

Lee is one of the best in the business. His work is impeccable. You won't be disappointed.

Lee did an HRF for me...killer guitar, fit and finish is top notch, he's doing an Oz Fox SPE for me now, but pearl white (no bumblebee graphic lol) and I expect it to be awesome as well. I would highly recommend him.

One thing though, if it were me I may just have him make a new body for you out of whatever wood you want and finish it whatever color you want, is it really worth it to strip the old paint off completely and do a refin ? I don't think it would be much more to just get a new body with the finish you really want. Just a thought...

Lee does amazing work. I’ve had him refinish several guitars of mine.

Yeah, Lee's work is beyond reproach - very thorough, and he's quick too..

Thanks guys. Do you remember how long the turnaround time was?

It depends on what you want done. Send him a note. Lee is very quick responding to emails.

GMW has me of the coolest looking finishes I have ever seen. If you are looking for a sparkle finish, also check out Pittman Guitars. That's who will be finishing Joe's USA Custom line.

I've had Lee refinish two of my guitars in the last couple years, one with a sparkle/flake finish. He is extremely detailed and great to work with. Both of my guitars took about 2-4 week turnaround.

I sold a San Dimas to a guy and he brought a guitar that he had sent to GMW to show me. I was speechless. Everything about that guitar floored me. Finish, action, fell, etc...

I had Lee do a red sparkle paint job similar to the one pictured above..nice job, great price and quick turnaround time, my only complaint was that there was some overspray where the control cavity is and the plate didn't fit correctly after the paint job, he wanted to charge extra to correct it? I would submit the body with any cover plates and make sure you have him make sure they fit correctly when done.

My experience didn't work out w/Lee. I wanted something different, had a lot of emails back and forth. I've talked to him many times on the phone in the past and he was great to deal with but since he doesn't take calls these days so much was lost in translation. He's quick to reply and his work is exceptional in every way but his communication through e-mail was disastrous. I wanted a lime green blood splatter over black and he turned out a green slime drip that was hideous. He repainted it the original color, refunded the difference and sent it to me. Fit, finish, setup are flawless but not talking with a person and using e-mail only was a problem that could simply be resolved with simple conversation.

He is refinishing a les Paul for me now. He is extremely quick to reply and very thorough. He even sent me a color board with a few sample finishes to choose from. I changed my mind on a couple things along the way and he never complained or said no. He is one of the best and most efficient in the custom department I have dealt with!

Can someone comment on a general price range if I was to get a Les Paul finished in a different color? Are we talking like $200, $1000, etc.?

Les Pauls would be more because of the binding I think, and a trans color or burst more than paint I’d think. Email him or message him on Facebook.
