Rick Beato says Nuno is "The Guy" now that Ed's gone. Plus his take on the solo in "Rise".

Agreed. Big Trouble, Ladies Night in Buffalo, Hina, etc.

Still no Eddie though. Also, I think to fully grasp EVH influence and innovation you have to look through the lens of what things were like in the mid-70's and then 1978 specifically. Comparing catalogs is one thing. Comparing influence and innovation is another.
Yep. Still think Vai's high point was Roth.

Room to be quirky yet mainstream with Roth, seemed to have alot more soul in his playing in that context. Dude knocked it out on that first album. I really can't get into Vai's solo stuff and I've come to really dislike his playing on Slip of the Tongue by WS, just totally missed the mark for me. Incredible talent though, no doubt.

Agreed. Funny how that is eh? People crap all over Roth for his image and his antics but his lyrics were always fun and his feel is what is important. How is it that he brought the best out of Eddie, Vai, AND Becker? The guy is a talent no matter how ridiculous he sounds when he talks.

Becker kicking all sorts of ass here rythmically thanks to diamond Dave's swag. I'd argue that he makes guys swing by the way he sings and writes songs:

Man there are some gems on that album. I think Roth stepped to far with Skyscraper - had he taken the best from that album combined with the best from Little, that'd been a kick ass album. Losing Billy didn't help either.

Drop in the Bucket and It's Showtime are incredible.....the majority of the rest of the album is very meh IMO :(

Lil Ain't enough is bad ass too. Yeah the other songs aren't AS good but there are some good rockers on there. I'd say it was a good album but not great. But those songs? Man those are great. Dave is like the salt you sprinkle on a steak to really bring the flavour out. When he sprinkles just enough, the guitar players do the rest and you end up with some killer material.

If someone said Roth was the greatest frontman ever I’d have no argument

How about Nuno with Roth...hmm. Now that'd be some jam right now. Even in Dave's current "even more limited vocal" state he could still put something together with Nuno and it'd kick ass. That I'd like to see and hear.

Nuno has been great since the first record. Not many are as good as he is and still doing it.
