The RT FB group was started a few years ago (pre-pandemic) with mixed opinions here. It’s wasn’t meant to take the place of the mothership but to augment it by giving members the choice to connect with other RT members in a different format. I’ve been a member of RT for about 14 years and feel that this place is/was the best gear forum for rock/metal guitar. I don’t frequent as much because, quite frankly, many of the OG’s have left us (RIP Steve King, Dan, and Todd ) making it very bitter sweet logging in now. Also, my personal FB page is 95% guitar related so my FB page doesn’t get into all the social and political crap that many believe is what FB is all about. You can make it a one stop shop for everything guitar. With my work and having 3 young boys I just don’t have the time to be logging into all the various online forums/blogs etc so having it all in one place has been useful.

So the reason for this post is to just remind everyone here of the RT FB group and to join if interested. I also run the original Soldano Amplification Players Group on FB. Links are below.

Also, please don’t make this a “shit on social media” thread. Everyone already knows what a vile place it can be, but it is what you make of it.

I mean….. pushing for a participation on a different platform sure seems like a good way to slowly kill the site….. what am i missing?

Also facebook guitar discussion groups annoy me. Its not searchable, typically full of moronic / WRONG info and topics are way more repetitious than you find on an actual forum. I have left all of them that i belonged to. Watching Dave Friedman answer questions about his amps, of which the answer is in the MANUAL, is not my idea of a good read.

I don’t think it would kill this RT page, for all the reasons you just mentioned. As stated, it’s not to replace but to supplement for those that want to. Plus, it would only be for members of this original RT forum.

I don’t think the owner of the forum, who’s got money invested in keeping this site updated with features and funded with ads, will like your lame attempt to shut it down all because you’re the only one that happens to have a family and a job to balance and can’t handle both.

You have to balance both old man. This site is the definitive forum for gear related to metal and rock. It’s one of the few that isn’t owned by the same company that owns sevenstring and TGP as well as many others.

I didn't know there was a rig talk on Facebook I just put in a request

“Lame” attempt? Well that’s because it’s not an attempt at all. I would never want RT to go anywhere. I 100% agree it’s the best gear forum there ever was/is. Other well known forums have a FB group and the forum’s are doing better than ever. I never looked at it as taking away from this group and if the owner and/or admins feel otherwise then please, by all means delete this thread.

If it’s not an attempt then edit your post to remove the hot links to somewhere else. Would you like someone posting a link to another amp modder on a website your business owned? Surely not.

I wish you well in 2023 - I have no hard feelings. Tbh this is the one place you can go and not have to deal with all of the political or general censorship which is definitely not how any Facebook group will go. There’s a reason it’s only 30 members and that’s because it’s not the place for rock and metal guitarists to state their opinions. Remember you can get banned on Facebook just for profanity alone.

RT FB would only serve to further divide an already divided group. Fuck that.
