Of Sam and Dave "hold on, I'm coming" and "soul man" fame. Died from complications related to a surgery at 89 years old.

Always dug his stuff. He didn't have a very easy time with his career post Sam and Dave. Opening for elvis impersonators is pretty pathetic. Wonder what musically clueless talent agents thought that would be a good idea? Anyways, this vid of Tony Joe White's "Rainy Night in Georgia" with Conway Twitty is one of my favorite renditions of the tune. RIP

Wow damn…RIP. What an absolute talent. Truly these are days where a whole incredible era of music is coming to an end. Makes me really sad.😞

It is sad, it’s becoming sad listening to cousin brucey on Saturday nights as I have all my life cause every week another has passed, he’s in his 90s and isn’t gonna be around much longer either

all the music of the 60s/70s/80s/90s…won’t have people left to talk to eventually. Really depressing man

I spend a lot of time thinking about the dudes who were gigging in the 60s/70s

Those dudes used to post in numbers but have dwindled down quite a bit

Guess it’s the normal progression of time but still just sucks

Like imagine Dallas in the 80s when Pantera wasn’t even “Pantera”…that entire scene just gone

Even the venue where dime was killed, turned into like condos/apartments or whatever

Father Time waits for no one 🙁

I try to keep track of the blues and soul scene a little bit. It's been a downhill run for the better part of it since the 90's. I love the players, the people, the music. The blues scene has not only shrunk but has diminished in quality since that time. A lot of throwback and cliche stuff has taken over, which bothers me, so I'm working on my part, trying to capture some of that powerhouse energy and a bit of forward thinking instead of strictly 1 4 5. Stuff you'd see in the 90's or early 2000's at a blues fest. Smoking bands and licks. A lot of it is bowling shirts and 15 watt amps putting me to sleep WTH happened? People died, others aged out I guess. Some of the venues don't want bands that pack a punch. C'est la vie. We all gotta go.

Yea man, what passes for blues today is like the equivalent of wanting authentic Italian food and then saying let’s go to Olive Garden lol

Nothing lasts forever, not even cold November rain 😅

I was watching a printer's alley club, bourbon street. Was a video of a more recent jam. I used to hit that one back in 06 and they were bringing in real deal guys from down south. Some of the Neal family and other pretty heavy duty players. Looks pretty watered down today by comparison and truthfully is still better than you'd find at a lot of jams elsewhere now. Good players but not really dedicated "blues" players. Olive Garden is a damn good analogy. I might borrow that one for a while.

its like that with lots of things, 60s muscle cars are my thing and anyone that was actually around during that time is at least 80 now, most all the drag strips are gone and are condos or storage spaces, younger people at least in my area dont want cars let alone give a shit about preserving the past. i thought about a killer show in 2008 i played when i was 25 feeling like it was still yesterday, then i realized it was 17 years ago. just gotta enjoy the ride
