Wow, I can't believe it has been 20 years. I remember hearing the news from the other room while laying in bed, jumping up and running to the TV. A tragic day, indeed.

Stevie was a God. We have a couple of his concerts on tape. Whenever I want to get my Wife horny I put it on and she's mesmorized. That low trill he hits with his vocals must go right to her clit. He was a bad mofo for sure.

A buddy and I were sitting at a stoplight after just leaving our morning electronics class. He asked if I heard about Stevie Ray Vaughan, and I remember saying "No, why???!!!" I had about 2 seconds to hope he was hoping he was going to tell me that Stevie was nominated or won some awesome award like a Grammy or something, but unfortunately he told me "He was killed in a helicopter crash leaving Alpine Valley last night". My life changed at that very moment and has never been the same. I had to work later that night and I remember my boss Cheryl asking if I wanted to go home because she and the others could tell I felt horrible. I thought there's no reason to be miserable at home with my parents who could care less about Stevie, so I decided to work the rest of the night where I would be among coworkers that loved him. I went out to my car and brought back in my cassette, yes I said cassette, of Texas Flood which Cheryl let us listen to the rest of the night.

I was 19 and can totally remember where I was when I heard the news. Me and my friends sat and listened to his music for the next 2 hours. A part of me died that day (from a musical standpoint). I hope I don't sound too dramatic but I was in a huge SRV phase at that time. I don't usually say things like this but he is one of those rare individuals that will NEVER be duplicated again. There will be others that will come along but he set a standard that will forever stand on its own.

makes ya wish you could go back in time, for Randy and others also...some folks are just too good to stay on the planet....
:aww:

Wow, didn't realize it has been that long. I remember it well, huge loss. RIP Stevie.

I was lucky enough to see him five times. On one occasion he lost his voice two songs into the show. He said to the audience "I can't sing anymore tonight so if you don't mind were gonna just jam." It is to this day the single greatest display of guitar showmanship I have ever witnessed. I have seem them live all (except for Hendrix) and nobody has ever been able to top that night. And probally never will. RIP Stevie, your music will live forever.

Wow.......2 decades since hearing that news.

Time slips by.... :(

I picked up SRV's testimony at a recovery seminar type thing. Him and Clapton, both great musicians, but also people that have found a way to overcome great challenges in life. Aside of being a truly great guitar player, SRV also had a great personal story. 'Life By the Drop', great cool little ditty. His music will live on, but he also helped other people to get their life back, and that is a tribute that lives on every day.

Cool stuff! I saw him play back in the mid 80s. I was 14 and a friend of mine loved the Moody Blues. They were playing an outdoor show in Dallas, TX so I decided to tag along. Guess who opened the show, SRV. I was introduced to him that evening and he has been one of my favorites ever since.

The world of music suffered a massive loss that day.

We all love you Stevie
