It has a bit of brightness to it, maybe that's what he means by icepick. It's easy to make many high gain amps un pleasant at high volume levels.
I feel that the amps clarity is its biggest selling point. It's exactly what I want in a lead oriented head. Also I'm not a big fan of cluttered three channel amps. All I need is a solid distortion and clean channel at this point. If I want a true old school crunch sound I'll buy a seperate amp tailored for that function alone. This one is all about the metal!
