I've had a stiffy for a medley for years. Anybody else out here in lala-land like these guitars? Also, what's up w/the Rio Grande pickups? What might they be comparable to?

This particular guitar looks killer to me. It's for sale on ebay right now for $900. If only I weren't already in debt!

They are built here in Houston. I've played several, and have been less than impressed. I think for the money, there are much better guitars on the market.

Interesting. I suppose that goes w/o saying for most brands, though. The OP pic has the visual speak for me.

So what about the Rio Grande pups?

I have Rio Grande BBQ buckers in 2 of my guitars, and a Muy Grande strat set in another. I really like their pickups! Very warm tones.

The Made in USA ones are all killer guitar. I used to live in the Houston area and would go into Rockin Robins (Their music store, but sold other brands too) a few times year where they had a huge wall of them. I never played one I didn't like other that some funky graphics from the late 80's early 90's.

To be clear they do have an import line so not ALL Robins are made in Houston TX. I think Korea or Mexico for imports and I wouldn't expect those to be as high of quality as the USA ones.

I have a a BC Rich Assassin thats loaded with a Rio Grande BBQ in the bridge and their stacked single Bladerunner in the neck and I love them! night and day compared to the stock Dimarzios

Played a hardtail robin medley with a quilted maple top that put the suhr next to it to shame. Absolutely awesome guitars. Extremely hard to find these days in anything other than ash.

Living in Houston as well I've played a couple of the US made and wasn't impressed either...especially for the $$$.

Robin Guitars closed a couple years ago. Is someone else producing them?

I had a killer Medley back in the late 80's. It didnt have a floyd though So I traded it for a BC Rich Gunslinger... Blech...

This.

Wow, didn't expect to see all the Robin hate! Interesting.

I have a Tedley and it is kickass. Incredibly well built. I have played many a Robin over the years and never once did I think they were bad in any way.

You answered your own question with the statement that preceded it - take my reply either way.

Just looked up the Tedley... cool looking guitar. I remember Phil Collen playing a tele style Jackson for a bit that looked killer, too.

I've never been a swamp ash lover, but it's mainly because I have been playing Ibanez guitars for so long. Also, I love basswood and alder a bunch, but the medley in that ebay post almost makes me wanna do something bad.... G A S

My question was genuine. SFW said "They are built here in Houston" I thought maybe someone bought the name. Especially since a couple people here were saying they didn't care for the Robin's they played. The few I played over the years were all killer guitars, so thinking someone bought the name and was producing guitars of a lesser quality is a reasonable assumption.

Either way, your reply was confusing...
