The POINT is that Hagar called EVH a liar, when he himself says in his book that EVH showed Mike what to play. Why does it matter how EVH did that?

Just to second Steve, and make it clear, Ed wanted Mike to play the WRONG bass parts...sticking with one note, so Ed wouldn't have to follow what he couldn't keep up with in whatever state of mind he was in during that reunion tour. That's what Sammy talked about in his book and repeated in the most recent interview clip. It had NOTHING to do with Mike not being able to play the right parts without Ed showing him.

How 'bout that version of 3-Lock Box?

Rise of the Animal?

Hell, Love or Money, Space Station #5, Plain Jane, Giza, I Dont Need Love, Heavy Metal, Fall In Love Again, on and on and on.

I guess the point of the thread is lost.

Hagar brings it.

My feeling is that Ed has been inclined to be less than truthful in the past, and my read on Hagar is that he is a total spin doctor whose main goal is to win the PR war.

But that's just my feeling. The reality is that no one commenting in this thread really knows the facts, so theres no sense arguing about it. None of us were there. Just because Sammy said something in his book, that doesn't make it true. And just because Edward said something in an interview, that doesn't make it true either. Why would you feel so convinced that something must be true or not when you weren't even there and you don't know all the details? But I guess that's how society is. We read a few quotes, a few headlines that are designed to create some controversy, and away we go. We are ready to pass judgement.

And once we've made up our minds, well that's it. No one can tell use we're wrong. We need someone to be the good guy and someone to be the bad guy. Nice and simple. No in between. Choose a side and don't let anyone convince you that there could be a lot more to the story than what shows up in the media.

thing is, at least for me - i don't really need to know the underlying facts.

lets just assume everything ed says is factually true - so what? why be an asshole and talk about shit that went on between you and ex-bandmate? i tell you what i would wonder - ed, if you were in one of the biggest rick bands in the world for decades, wtf were you doing slumming around with a second rate bass player that you had to freaking waste your time showing how to play? you mean EDDIE VAN HALEN couldn't get a competent bass player? or someone who had 'soul' in their backing vocals?

for me, its just distasteful that ed had a lot of success with a group of guys and finds it necessary to trash them. he chose to be in a band with them..nobody forced him...he didn't get 'stuck' with them....history has shown ed is all too willing to dump guys and move on....so, don't be bitching about it so much after the fact. and, by the way, he enjoyed a hell of a lot of success with those hacks too!

I honestly don't really care if what he says is true or not...actually, i guess thats not totally accurate. if its not true, it makes it even worse...but just being true doesn't make it ok in my book.

Listen to this...Romeo Delight no vocals, just Mike, Eddie and Alex. Tell me the bass playing sucks on this or sounds amateur in any way....the bass is hot in the mix on this demo.....13:59 is the start. To me Mike kills it on this...I am assuming due to date this isn't Eddie...sound like a bass player not a guitarist playing bass
