I really like hearing these tunes with Joe using a raw, in your face tone.

Joe plays the first part of the intro to Mean Street, then Sammy talks, then they play some of 5150. This tour is gonna COOK.

I'm glad the fans are going to be able to enjoy this. For me anytime fans can enjoy music that's all that matters. From Kiss or Queen, or maybe the idea of Geddy and Alex cranking the machine back up without original guys, that's fine with me because there will be fans that want to hear the music and have a good time and those musicians have all the right in the world to play what they created.

That said, as much as I want to like Hagar, there's just something about him that's always bugged the shit out of me in his tenure with VH. I mean I even like alot of the music they did, saw Van Hagar in concert a few times but still there's the underlying thing with him that just bothers the crap out of me. Oh well.

Def gonna catch this tour if they come anywhere near me

When Sammy joined, I assumed they'd still play "kick ass and takes names" style VH music. The Hagar era was a big disappointment. Too polished and too much pop.

I loved the Sammy era of Van Halen! Joe's doing a great job but you can see how difficult it is and he just doesn't have Eddie's feel and groove I commented pretty much the same thing on the other thread great stuff thank you for sharing.

Not a dig at Satch, but listening to him play the beginning of summer nights just goes to show how effortlessly Eddie played these riffs.
Maybe Ibanez will build Satriani a JS1000 with a Transtrem.

I stopped watching after a while. Joe seems to be a good dude and God knows, would wipe the floor with me on lead guitar but he was butchering those rhythms. Way too loose and too much distortion.
Sammy was cracking me up on how deep he thought his lyrics were on Best of Both Worlds. He’s so into it I can’t hate the guy but he’s his own guru, his own Svengali… ?

I like Joe and I'll probably catch the show when it comes around, but IMO, Joe is the wrong guitarist for an Eddie gig. Liquid Charlie, Caleb Rappoport, Satchel, Al Estrada, Nuno- would be names that come to mind for EVH. Joe is like a guitar computer. He can play the tunes, but that swing style boogie isn't there. I'm not knocking Joe, but I am pointing out the obvious.

Don't get ne wrong, we all know Joe is a stellar guitarist. But (for me) his performance here actually highlights just how amazing and unique EVH actually was. Joe is technically on point, but he doesn't seem to be able to get a real handle on Ed's nuance, swing and overall feel. This is especially evident during the rhythm portions of these songs.

I think full gig will blow this away, but if this is the ad to sell Tix, I don't think it will work. Great players but none of this sounds good to my ears.

According to the stories, EVH asked almost everyone to be the lead singer

Almost got good tickets today until I saw the prices. 400-800 each. Nuno might have closed the deal for me but like others have said as much as JS is an incredible guitarist at least right now he doesn’t fit doing the EVH stuff. Maybe it will get better as they actually rehearse the songs together but that swing/feel of Eddie’s eludes most that try to play his songs. Maybe I am thinking about it wrong though. Is it meant to be a tribute to EVH in which case case it should all be played as closely as possible, or is it just Sammy going out to play a bunch of songs and have fun? Then it could be a little looser. Either way unless I can score some good tix at a reasonable price closer to the show I will enjoy the 100’s of YouTube videos that will undoubtedly follow.
