Wolfgang is doing his own thing and good for him. My problem is I don’t really care for what he’s doing. Sounds like foo fighters 2.0….I was really surprised by how talented Wolfgang is though. Maybe he will do a tribute sometime when he’s ready. I hope so. The thing that kills me is how big a part of Van Halen Michael Anthony was…..yet it always focuses on Dave and Sammy being let go. Mike was there forever and then one day they are like you’re done….wolfie is taking over for you….

Both Ed and Al said Sammy had a bad work ethic, that’s why they got rid of him. His son never organized a tribute for his father, yet plays other people’s tributes. There’s three class acts right there.

Seriously. No one better than Ed and Al to call him out, too. Frankly, I'm surprised they could even keep up with Sammy's goings on with how prolific they were once Sammy was out of the band. Good thing he bailed, he was just going to hold them back with those multi-million dollar liquor businesses, chain of restaurants, multiple bands and nonstop touring.

Even in my high school virtuoso shred worship days, Satch was never my particular favorite. A lot of his songs just sound like someone soloing over backing tracks to me, as where Vai was writing dense orchestrations under his stuff, or Petrucci being in an actual band. That said, I'll generally go see him live whenever I get the chance, I strongly prefer him in a live setting. Better tones, more energy and I'm more receptive to it overall. He has some really great melodies over his albums and his approach is more akin to sticking instrumental guitar in a top 40/pop song format.

I find him particular enjoyable after I've hit the bong a couple times.

solo'ing over a backing track is exactly what i thought, kind of surprised me to hear such bland music behind him in a lot of songs, maybe that was by design to try and showcase his playing more or something. these live clips are better though for sure.

Van Halen with Roth was the complete package. It didn't matter that Roth wasn't a great singer, nobody cared. Nobody, nobody came close to what he did at that point onstage. He truly was the MC before that term was ever popularized in modern music. They took Zep's recipe and supercharged it - all the 80's act would follow.

And as great as the guitar was, again it was the whole package. The lyrics, the delivery, the talent, Alex, Ed and most importantly the Attitude. Basically Van Halen outdid Kiss without all the bombast, the makeup and pyro - and Kiss is my favorite band.

Van Halen was a tank destroying everything in it's path. Van Hagar was a Porsche trying to blend in with alot of other fancy cars.

Obviously we disagree and that's fine. As I said before I just glad I got see VH from the beginning, it was just cool.
The perfect post to repost this. This was everything that @jabps described. Best concert I ever attended

Oh there will be little classic VH played. Hagar rarely sang any of the classics and when they did, he'd let Mike take lead sometimes. 95% of the set will be Van Hagar era.
And the rest of the guys wanted to play some of the classics . Mike said as kindly as he could in an interview years ago that singing the DLR stuff was something Sammy was strongly against. Mike pushed for Mean Street in the Balance tour setlist and it was vetoed

I'm afraid I can't take Sammy's word for anything considering how vehemently he believes that he's been abducted by space aliens. Look it up.

I think Joes tone still sucks here .. but god damn Sammy is killing it vocally ... amazing for a guy his age

joe is the wrong guy for the job on this gig, someone call pete thorn please.

Wolff so far makes bland boring music

David has lived quite the life. I think it’s cool he did the EMT thing for a while like a normal human
It’s funny you say that…I watched an interesting documentary on him. He was a pretty interesting dude and did some really wild shit. I believe it was the us festival that he was flown in from the Amazon doing some crazy Indiana Jones stuff…right before the show…

How opportune to add this from Sammy...

This is why Sammy bugs me. No Sam you weren't as big as Van Halen at any part of your career and to think that you were even on the same level is just pure ego driven lunacy. I mean this guy has released 20 solo albums that roughly total about 4 mill in sales. Roth's solo album totals equal that. Van Halen's debut album has sold over 15 mill alone.

Look Sam is uber rich but the majority of that didn't come from music, it came from selling the rights to his tequila brand. Just gotta shake my head here.
