Seymour Duncan should describe it as : slightly lame pup that kinda sorta sounds meh not to be confused with "screamins" or "demons".

The scremin demon is a great PAF type p'u but i prefer the ARCANE Mr Scary version

The Arcane Mr Scary is a completely different beast IMO. Alinco 8 magnet and pretty high output as well. Doesn't have the lows that the Demon has, but it has it's own thing going on.

How would you describe the differences ? I`ve had the Demon and the low end was always tight

I have one in an alder BC Rich STIII. Low output, which isn't a problem. Very undefined bass in that wood. Kind of borderlining on muddy compared to my other guitars. I still like it, but it wasn't what I expected.

My opinion on the bass seems to counter what most people here have to say, making me wonder if mine was defective.

Anyone try it in the neck position?
Yep, it's in my ESP Horizon NT's neck position. I already heard the stories how it was too weak in the bridge position, but as a neck position it's really cool.
Borderlines on that 'vocal aww' sound that several DiMarzio's are known for, like the PAF Pro. But a bit more opener in the mids, with quite tight lows that still retain some Alnico magnet character.
I can't speak for the bridge position, but in the neck position it sounds nothing like the '59 Neck. That thing is very thick to muddy, quite scooped sounding in the mids, whereas the Screamin' Demon is more mid focussed with good tight lows.

I've got one in a drawer somewhere. I could find it if I listened for the shittiest sounding drawer.

I like it, but it really is a true signature piece of gear in that it doesn´t work outside the situation it was designed for. It rips with a Tubescreamer, but is pretty weird otherwise.

Had a couple in Lynch sig guitars...sounded pretty great in them but I always run mondo gained out+OD pedal :-)

I just dug out my 90's Screaming Demon pickup and threw it into my Charvel. Actually, it sounds pretty good! VERY articulate, lower output, better sustain and ringing tone than the Custom or Custom5. With enough gain, harmonics are jumping out of the guitar.

It pays to give it a try, if you can deal with the lower output. Pairs very well with a 59 neck.

I have a hard time believing the SD sounds better than a SH-5 Custom.

Not in my guitars.

Not in my guitars.

Not really better, just different. More like a PAF (articulate, open sounding), compared to the Custom (ceramic magnet, higher output, more punch, more mids).

High output pickups are not always the solution. I have had success using the pickup but just like any other pickup, out it in the wrong guitar and pair it in the wrong application and of course it will fail....so will anything else.

Mine are in Lynch sig guitars with a multitude of amps, and I hate them...but I leave the guitars stock. Skulls and Snakes, Kamikaze III, and a Sunburst Tiger.

Would be interesting to know what output pickups the guys who hated this pickup prefer, I've never played it so don't know but 10k is not very hot but I'm gonna guess that some of the guys that hated it use and prefer high output. I prefer 8-12K pickups most generally and the hottest I own is the BK Rebel Yell at 14K. Used to love the high output stuff (16-18K) but after making the switch to low output and going back and trying some hotter stuff, JB, Suhr SH+, Aldrich etc that I use to like I can't deal with the reduced clarity I get when trying them in multiple guitars recently. But as always every guitar is different.

Well Lynch used a Duncan Distortion for BFTA so ...

I will say if he used a Demon without the Screamin on the first Lynch mob it sounds good but he uses a ton of shit in the studio.

I don't care for his tone or A eolian style playing nowdays.

Wicked Sensation was still a Duncan Distortion , 2nd Lynch Mob album was supposedly the Demon

I've read countless quotes of Lynch saying the Demon was primarily used on the WS rhythm tracks. But, who knows if he's mistaken or not
