Scumback m75/h75 vs. Celestion G12m-65/G12h-75?

I've found a great deal of forum entries regarding reviews/opinions on Scumback vs Celestion illustrating the differences between Scumback's H vs Celestion's H and Scumback's M vs. Celestion's M. The New Celestion's were obviously designed as an answer to Celestion customers jumping ship and using Scumback's.

What "I CAN NOT" find however is feedback on how people feel about the m75/h75 212 combo vs G12m-65/G12h-75. Perhaps this seems like an obvious and redundant question but because I always use a partial open back 212 and everyone has told me that the m75/h75 combo is the way to go I'm curious as what to get because people seem to prefer the Celestion singles vs they're Scumback counterparts.

Does anyone have any insight into my conundrum?
 
That was a really popular combo ~ five years ago; I don't see too much about it anymore. I had it, but didn't care for it -- thought the H was louder and it seemed to dominate the overall sound. This was my experience only. I'm sure others will chime in with far different results. But then again I was using an oversized ported closed back 2x12; I have zero idea how they would sound paired in an open back.
 
I run a celestion m65/h75 combo in my oversized open back cabinet and greatly prefer it to the scumback offering. It just nails that classic british sound to me. Whenever I want a marshall style tone that is my go to cabinet. I thought the scumback offering wasn't as clear or articulate and just sounded muddy or mushy to me. If you do decide to try scumback however I had a VERY bad experience with the company. I purchased the scumbacks during one of their sales just before the celestion h75 was announced and was assured about the 30 day exchange for a different model and the 1 year warranty as they are new, on sale - fully covered, etc etc. I did get the factory break in because I didn't want to spend the time doing it.

Well after getting them (which took a while) I just didn't care for them, like at all and called about 4 days after getting them to exchange or worse case return. One of them sounded like it had a band pass filter on it and I'm pretty sure was defective, basically zero high and low end - like at all. I mean am radio with high and low eq all the way down bad. Just horrible. The other sounded like a greenback but was a little too muddy for me and just didn't have enough articulation, if that makes sense. So I called in and they said that because of the sale they were so back logged getting speakers out they couldn't honor the exchange policy. Ok fine, shame on me. So I asked, I'll just return it then and take the hit, you can sell it to somebody else and relieve some backlog. Nope, too busy for that also. Hmmm, ok, then just replace the one I think is broken. Again, nope we qa/qc everything out the door, it can't have failed. I was beyond livid at this point. They wouldn't budge so I was basically screwed. They wouldn't honor 3 policies stated on their website. I ended up throwing the bad one away and selling the other at a loss, maybe 40-50% or so. I basically paid about $200 to test one scumback speaker and one scumback paper weight for 4 days. I'll NEVER buy another scumback product. Ever.

I had the celestion m65/h75 from sweetwater in 2 days and the sales guy even called a couple weeks later to see how I liked them. They have been great and I've purchased 2 more sets for other cabinets I have. I've also installed maybe 7-8 pairs into friends cabinets that I have worked on either their amp or cabinet at their request after hearing my cab. If you want that british sounding cabinet I think the m65/m75 celestion combo will nail it and is a great combo. I rarely even pull out the 4x12 anymore as those two in an oversize open back sound just as big to me.
 
mjtripper: read your post. I have to tell you, I just went over my sales records back to 2009, and almost all of the M75/H75 mix sales have been sold through Dave @ Forte Speakers, or George @ Metro Amps. There were 95 M/H sales to Michigan since 2009, so I had a few to check.

Frankly, I don't remember this experience you say you had at all. I even checked my "Bozo Client" file folder, and no one from Michigan shows up there. As much as you say you had a bad experience with me, or my speakers, I would have probably put your emails in this folder. But I didn't find anyone's from Michigan.

But I'm not going to belabor that point. If you can email me your paypal address, your real name, and what/when you bought it, I'd be happy to make good on it.

Keep in, however, that if these were the older blue frame models made in Kokomo, Indiana, that could be a good reason why you were upset. However, even then, I just don't remember your experience, with anyone from Michigan.

Happy to try and make it right by you even at this late date.

Full disclosure: I am too cheap to pay for the break in service and have only bought 3 M75's and have never had a problem. Right now I have 2 M75's mixed with 2 Celestion creambacks from 1973, that cab sound incredible. The scumbacks are a little darker sounding, maybe even after the break in but I'd buy more if I need to.
 
I love my Scumback speakers! My current favorite are the BH75 and the M75 and they sound amazing together. I bought many different Celestions and the only ones that sounded as good were my old 1970 Greenbacks and Cream backs that were loaded into 2 1970 Marshall cabs. I sold all my V30's and the newer Green Backs because they didn't sound even close! I also have the BM75,H75,S75 and Scumnico.I always had a great experience with all my purchases with Jim, he's the coolest guy and he's an honest person.

Absolutely...I've been using the M75s with my SLO for several years now. Currently using the BM75s with my Metro Friedman and couldn't be happier! :rock:

Been using Scumback Speakers M75,H75 combo with a 2x12 OS port city Cab and that combo is fantastic with any type of Marshall style Amp.
 
never had a good experience at mixing different sensitivity speakers
but I did love the 30w H75's I had and the 65w M75 I have paired with a chinese hiwatt 150w speaker of similar senstivity

I like regular celestions too, but at the end, they're all equally expensive these days, so I don't get when people still try to get into this sort of discussion about famous mass produced brands x small boutique (or not) brands that also make good stuff

someday I might dump the hiwatt speaker and buy the celestion equivalent to the scumback just for the experience, but I wouldn't get rid of the m75 just to follow the internet trends
