Serious question comparing two Diezel channels....

I'm really sorry for ANOTHER VH-4 Herbert comparison, and I have read all the other ones but my question is a bit more specific. I'm in the process of possibly trading my Herbert for a VH-4, (I don't play metal but I like to occasionally) I have recently fallen in love with channel 3 on the Herbert... channel 2+ on the Herbert has more then enough distortion, but it doesn't have the OOMPF and sustain of of channel 3, also I like the little bit of added compression on channel 3 of the Herbert...so long story short I'm loving channel 3 on the Herbert...

My main question is, is channel 3 on the Herbert closer to channel 3 on the VH-4? or is it closer to channel 4 of the VH-4? And if it's closer to channel 4, what are the differences between the two?

And at the same time what are the differences/ similarities of channel 2+ of the Herbert, and channel 3 of the VH4...

I know this a pain in the ass, but I must say Diezel owners are an amazing group of people and I have been met with nothing but great advise and assistance since coming to these boards and purchasing a Herbert... I appreciate any and all advice/answers, thanks so much guys...

Channel 3 Herbert is probably closer to Channel 4 VH4. Channel 2+ Herbert is close to Channel 3 VH4.

Channel 3 VH4 is more compressed than the Herbert, but has a bit more growl. It's a great sounding high-gain tone. Honestly, I don't use Channel 4 on my VH4 that much because it's just too much gain and compression for me. When I played the Herbert I also didn't use Channel 3 that much for similar reasons.

Vh4 channel 3 isen't possible to reproduce at all on the Herbert and viceversa the Vh4 can't do other sounds of the Herbert.
So we have 2 amps..pretty logic.

I don't think the VH4 can do it.

Vh4 CH3 is more or less comparable to Ch2- Herbert with good amount of gain dialed in
VH4 CH4 is closer to CH2+

Just my opinion.

Woah, your telling me that channel 4 on the VH-4 is only similar to 2+ on the Herbert?

I don't find CH4 usable with gain above 9:00, and while at that point it possibly has more gain than CH2+ Herbert, it has a similar feel & sound structure. If I were to play some really heavy & tight 1-2 string stuff, I'd go with ch3 Herbert without giving it a second thought.

Quit fidgeting, Kit.

In my estimation you’re not ready for a Herbert or VH4. You apparently are constantly uneasy with either amp, from whatever source of information that you may obtain. The amp is not going to make you a better or worse guitar player. Only you can do that, not the amp.

I suggest getting yourself a PV 5150II or a EVH 5150III and a Metal Zone - seriously.

You just got a Herbert days ago and now you want to trade up for a VH4?

I'd play the Herbert for at least a week before considering trading up, geeze.....

Seriously, just stick with the Herbert. It's just as good or better than the VH4.

Actually I love my head... I've just been bitten by the Diezel bug like so many others and am unsure... constructive advice or nothing at all please and thank you, that wasn't necessary...

That was directed toward Crimson BTW...

And the only reason I jumped on the Herbert was I knew it would get me closer to a VH-4, which was the end goal anyway, and it appears that I Was exactly right....

BTW your experience will be very different from mine if you have been playing your Herbert in your bedroom.

My take on the differences is this (at normal to loud playing volumes):

If you want ch2- feel with more gain, try ch3 VH4
If you want ch2+ feel with more gain, try ch4 VH4
If you want Herbert ch3, try Herbert ch3

Herbert was at my house for 3 hours, been in my practice space since I practice 4 times a week and gig several times a month, my equipment definitely gets to roar, is there any other reason to buy a tube amp if not to crank it?

I dont have a VH4 but the Herbert is by far the best sounding and my favorate so far!! I've never been happier!! :rawk: Give it a chance, you haven't even messed with tubes yet! That can open up totally different tones for you!

I don't get the Herbert CH2- / VH4 CH3 comparison.

You are a Mark IV fanboi and you think you will like the VH4 better?

Just because that's what I hear doesn't mean I'm right.

Is that wrong to assume? Everyone seems to say it has a more midrange growl, which would suit me a bit better. I do t think I can go wrong with either head, I'm just curious. You get your head fixed yet?

You make no sense, Kit. It was and is obligatory. And my advice to you was and is most likely the best and most practical "constructive criticism" you may find. In the meantime, while you nozzle gobbledygook out about what Diezel you need(???) while to spend a few hours with it and then make ill determinations, try my advice to you.
