Serious Topic - Really....

What controls the taper of the master volume? Is it the linear/audio taper characteristics of the pot itself or some of the caps/resistors behind it?

I do really like the tones from of this Cameron Ocean mod I have, but the taper of the master volume goes from mouse fart to oh shit really fast. Is replacing the pot with one of a different taper the answer or is it something else?

A 250k pot is itself a 250k Resistor... A 250k "Variable" Resistor. When the pot is closed it is 100% resistance letting nothing through, when wide open the total resistance is 250k you can verify this with a meter.

The Linear or audio refers to the taper or the rate the pot changes when you turn the shaft. Linar is just that it changes an even amount across the board when you turn it.

An Audio taper compensates for the way the human ear hears sound... It's much more sensitive at the lower the volume, so it has a much more gradual taper in the begining.

It sounds like there is a linear pot in there... If you switch it to an audio taper I think you would be much happier with the results.

Hey Steve,

I used to own that amp. It has a linear taper pot for the master volume. I forget what value it is, but just get the same value as an audio taper and it will do the trick. If you have a soldering iron, it will only take a few minutes to swap it out.
