Should I buy a BE100 Deluxe?

I maybe crazy, but from the current production line of Friedman amps, the one that seems to sound better to me is the little Pink Taco.

It has that classic Friedman BE DNA that the Deluxes seem to have lost in favour of a more modern tone.

I would say to the OP, if you are this worried about "harshness" and high end, you are not a Marshall guy... def do not buy this amp. Maybe go for a mesa, diezel, ksr, fortin, engl, bongner etc.... or a heavily modded marshall that will filter out all the classic marshall characteristics.

All I can say is that I like mine and I prefer it over amps I had in the past. I owned some Marshalls JCM 800 (2203, 2204, 2203 KK), 900 SL-X, Jubilee, TSL100 and JVM 410 h, a Peavey 6505 + (and also the Bugera version) and a Fryette Sig X. Not that much experience, I know, but still... Besides the Friedman there are only 2 other amps I own : Engl Blackmore and my old heavily modded Marshall JMP SLP 1959. I also had some experience with 2 Mesa Boogies in the studio, but these weren't mine. Point is, it's the best amp I have experience with. I would only put my old Marshall up there with it.

I had a BE100 2016 version and I normally used the Akira Takasaki settings on it, which where the settings in which the amp sounded brighter and more shrill like. So yeah, I'm definitely a Marshall guy.

It’s just that in the never ending quest for the perfect tone, a little bit of difference can make something go from perfect to bother you all the time.

Seems like people put more effort into the hunt for gear then playing anymore... hell... I'm guilty of that!

Flavors change, builders change. I don't own one but would like to try one. I can't imagine it not working for polished Marshall tones... real musicians use them for touring and a good musican can make a crappy rig sound great.

You see it with lots of guitars too. After a few days, reality sets in and so does the large cost.

That's probably true of some of them, but I'm also seeing people with lots of expensive gear selling them and their reasoning is “to try other things”.

This guy is one example.

I recommend getting one with the option of a return policy to try it out, like others have said. I actually liked the one I tried. There was no harshness at the high end from what I could tell (compared to a Marshall). I returned it so I could get the cash to try out a Wizard Modern Classic, but truthfully, I wish I had kept the BE Deluxe.

I have a 2015 (upgraded to 2016 specs) BE100 and my other guitar player has the Deluxe version. Both are fantastic amps if you ask me, but there is something about my old BE100. I feel the same about the BE100 vs BE100 Deluxe comparison as I did with my BE100 and my old Butterslax. The BE100 just has more of a punch to it. It's slightly bigger sounding and hits your gut harder. Again, The Deluxe is a great amp and i'd use one all day, but I personally think the old BE100 is a better amp by a small margin.
